Dear Families,
Water is the theme of the week. The Rainbow Fish - a story about a fish that learns to celebrate it's individuality and share with others - will give the students inspiration as they create their own colorful fish made using foil, paint, and jewels. Working on communication and social skills will be the focal point of our group art project of the week as the class creates a giant sea mural together. Along with stickers of under water creatures and water colors masterpieces will be created in every classroom! Sensory play will be more fun than ever as the students make a "splash" with water toys. This activity provides a terrific tactile experience as well as group learning and sharing.
Discussions about water in different forms will be initiated by our penguin puppet as he talks about frozen habitats and icebergs!
Physical fitness and body awareness are pivotal elements to our 2's Club curriculum. Each week the children grow stronger and more confident as they approach new gymnastics skills. The instructors continue to teach specific skills on each of the four apparatus in the gym: floor circuit, beam, bars and trampoline. By nature - gymnastics is a sport which builds on basic skills. Below is a list of some basic skills and terminology you can reinforce with your child at home.
-freeze and bend your knees (great for preparing to jump) -donkey kicks (increased arm strength) -"I can balance on one leg" (increased balance and core strength) -airplane arms (coordination and core strength for balance) -gymnastics positions on all apparatus: tuck, pike and straddle -"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great FALL!" (rolling backward assists the children with spacial awareness and prepares them for forward and backward rolls).
Have fun and join in with your child. All of these exercises can be good for the whole family!
New York Kids Club will be hosting spook-tacular Halloween parties with costume parades and holiday art projects at each of our locations. Contact your respective location for exact dates and times! Students are also encouraged to attend class in costume anytime from October 25th - 31st as the NY Kids Club will be celebrating Halloween all week long.
Sincerely,
 Gair Morris Director
