Dear Parents, This week, the New York Kids Club's Early Enrichment Center will expound on the theme of animals by allowing the students to create artistic porcupines! Our students will work with clay as they use their fine motor skills to mold, roll and shape a porcupine's body. They continue the creativity as they apply craft sticks and colored pipe cleaners for legs and quills! The animal cracker snack this week is simple yet will provide wonderful opportunities for animal discussions. Our Early Enrichment Center curriculum encourages your children to increase their vocabulary through language rich lessons. Students can answer questions regarding their specific cracker which leads to mastering the more difficult part of language development such as syntax and grammar. Speaking along side a group of peers also builds self confidence. During sensory time, our 2's Club students will have furry visitors in honor of animal week; our pet gerbils! Students delight in greeting their location's gerbils each morning when passing through the lobby. This week we will get to learn more about these animals as we watch them eat, burrow, exercise, and have fun in the classroom!
The children will delight in singing a song about an animal we see often in the park - squirrels! The lyrics below should prompt lively discussions when the students see their next squirrel. Don't worry about the melody, as this may be an unfamiliar tune to you. Your child will enjoy the opportunity to share just by speaking the lyrics.
Gray squirrel, Gray squirrel Swish your bushy tail Gray squirrel, Gray squirrel Swish your bushy tail. Touch your finger to your nose. (Where's your nose?) Hide a nut between your toes (Hide it!) Gray squirrel, Gray squirrel Swish your bushy tail
Here is to another great week! Sincerely,
 Gair Morris Director
