Dear Parents,
This week our Early Enrichment students will use everything except paintbrushes to create colorful works of art. As our theme of the week is birds, some feathers will come out to help with the painting! Students will use their new "paintbrush" to paint and mix colors to discover new hues. Developing fine motor skills is incredibly important for two-to-three year olds. Many children in this age group still use their whole fist to grab a crayon and move their whole arm to make marks on paper. Introducing our students to coloring, painting, lacing, sewing, and clay activities helps to develop vital motor skills and muscles, which children will use when they learn to write.
A week about Birds would not be complete without a lively musical rug time discussing which came first; the chicken or the egg! Our friend the Red Hen will visit and students will enjoy creating new and different rhythms with our egg shakers.
Story time in the classroom is always an important opportunity to enjoy literature and lively discussion on the theme of the week. This week teachers will read the classic story Are You My Mother? by P.D. Eastman. We encourage you to add this story to your list the next time you visit the library or add this title to your library at home.
During these rainy and hot summer months, the New York Kids Club offers a cool respite with our afternoon Open Play schedule for children ages 6 months to 4 years. Visit nykidsclub.com to purchase a Play Pack and reserve your Open Play dates online!
Sincerely,
 Gair Morris Director
