SUMMER CAMP NEWSLETTER
June 20th, 2011
With summer upon us, what better way to jumpstart our imaginations than with a book? This year's Summer Adventure Camp theme is Classic Children's Literature and each week campers will crack open a new world, cooking, dancing, singing and playing their way through some of the greatest stories ever written.

Despite a full day of fun and games, it can often be difficult for a child to answer an open ended question like "What did you do at camp today?"  With that in mind, we have provided a few highlights from the week to open up the conversation between you and your camper.

WEEK 3

Little House on the Prairie

"I am beginning to learn that it is the sweet, simple things of life

which are the real ones after all."

-Laura Ingalls Wilder

  • How to make a NY Kids Club quilt: what materials did we use? What does your final patch look like? Littlehouse

  • Our future architects designed a log cabin home on paper before bringing it to life with Lincoln Logs.  What do you call the initial (blue crayon drawn) plan?

  • Ask your camper how we celebrated the completion of the Wilder family home. Hint: It wasn't with a 'circle' dance. Which move was the trickiest? The most fun?

  • Just like the Wilders, we are faced with crossing a bridgeless Missouri River. . How did your camper get their 'covered wagon' across the water?

  • The animals of the prairie come alive with our yoga unit: see if your camper can teach you horse, wolf, and prairie dog poses.
