Headmaster's Greeting

Philosophic Discernment

St. Paul warns, "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy" (Colossians 2:8). Ignorance of the past makes us more susceptible to this kind of captivity. Darwinian Evolution, for example, was a 19th century theory based on observed differences between birds and their beaks. However, when it was applied beyond its research basis, it brought immeasurable trouble and heartache into the world (e.g., eugenics, the Holocaust). Einstein's Theory of Relativity is about time and space, but misunderstood and misapplied by the populace, it became relativism, which contributed to the sexual revolution, postmodernism and deconstructionism.

It is easy to get pulled in by the world's faulty philosophies. At the very least, if we know little or nothing about such philosophies, we can easily be intimidated by those who espouse them. A broad knowledge of history and thought enables us to escape the chronological myopia that blinds us to their errors. When that knowledge also includes Christ, He sets us free from the myriad of culturally imposed worldviews. St. Paul wrote, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free" (Galatians 5:1). Such freedom is the goal of a classical education and the goal for our students at Memorial Lutheran School. Pray that God will grant us success toward this liberating goal.

Prayers for Mrs. Koutsodontis, Pre-School Teacher

We pray for MLS Pre-School teacher, Mrs. Dianna Koutsodontis. Friday morning Mrs. Koutsodontis was not feeling well and she ended up in the emergency room. We praise God that she was there, as the doctors indicated she was having a heart attack. They found two small blocked arteries and inserted the balloons and stints. The rest of her heart looks good, and she is expected to be fine. She went home over the weekend, and will be out this week. We thank God that Dianna will soon be back to school.

Girls Volleyball

Our MLS Varsity girls participated in the Pilgrim Lutheran tournament this past weekend. They played very well, winning thier first match but losing the second.  Way to go girls!
