Headmaster's Greeting

Building a Strong Foundation

Building a Strong Foundation is our school slogan. It reflects our commitment to give your child(ren) both a strong spiritual foundation and a strong academic foundation. Spiritually we build on the Rock that is Jesus Christ. Jesus said, "Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock" (Matt. 7:24-25). Educationally we build with the tried and true classical approach, which gives your child(ren) the tools he or she needs to be a successful learner and effective leader.

Achieving this two-fold goal takes a two-fold effort. Both parents and teachers are needed to build a child's spiritual and academic foundation. To facilitate this joint effort, we are planning our first Parent/Teacher League meeting of the year. It will be held in the gym on Monday, September 17 with dinner beginning at 5:30 P.M. and the meeting beginning at 6:00 P.M. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend as together we work to strengthen our efforts at Building a Strong Foundation for your child(ren).

MLS Students Qualify for Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP)

Congratulations to 7th graders Jose Cordero, Chris Filby, Christopher Meyers, Tara Nored, and Robert Williamson.  All of these students scored in the 95th percentile or above on standardized testing, which qualifies them for the Duke (Talent Identification Program)TIP.

What is the Duke TIP? Duke TIP's 7th Grade Talent Search is the largest program of its kind in the nation. Since its inception in 1980, over 2 million students have participated in a Duke TIP Talent Search. The 7th Grade Talent Search identifies academically talented seventh graders based on standardized test scores achieved while attending elementary or middle school. Candidates are invited to take the ACT or the SAT college entrance exam as seventh graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and have access to unique resources for gifted students. Students who have been identified receive special benefits such as summer and online academic programs. http://www.tip.duke.edu/node/44

Girls Volleyball

Our MLS Girls played yesterday at Our Savior Lutheran. The JV team played Trinity Klein JV 4 - our girls lost 2 very close games. They played great for such a young team!  The Varsity team played Our Savior and lost their games, but the games were close and the girls played very well. Each week the coaches are seeing improvement in their players.

Volleyball next week: Tuesday, September 11, here at home vs. Salem and Trinity Downtown. JV plays at 4 and Varsity plays at 5 p.m.  Thursday, September 13, also at home vs. Pilgrim and Epiphany.  Varsity plays at 4 and JV plays at 5 p.m.
