We would like to give a big "Thank You" to the Parent Teacher League (PTL) for providing such a nice Teacher/Staff Appreciation luncheon last Thursday, May 10. As you can see from the photo above, the PTL moms did a great job setting up! A special thank you to Laura Rochelle, Becky Hoiland and Marte Stangeland for making the lunch so nice for our faculty and staff. We appreciate the MLS PTL.

"Lutherans for Life" Essay Contest Winners |
Several of our students entered the "Lutherans for Life" Essay Contest. This contest asked students to write an essay in letter form to President Obama, focusing on the the gift of life. Top winners received a monetary scholarship award. MLS 8th grade students did an amazing job. Winning First place was was Justin Watkins, who received a $150 scholarship award and a certificate. Ammaar Alam took Second place, winning a $50 scholarship and a certificate. Charles Filby was awarded an Honorable Mention. A representative of the organization will present the certificates to our students on Monday, May 14. Also, the scholarship winners will attend the next Lutherans for Life meeting where they will read their essays and receive their scholarship money.

1st-4th Grade Music Concert Tomorrow, May 15 at 7 p.m. |
Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 15, the 1st -4th grades will present their concert at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Students should be dressed in Chapel uniform. Hope to see you there for a nice evening of music.

Return Spring Picture Proofs by This Thursday, May 17 |
The Spring Picture proofs need to be returned by this Thursday, May 17. The proofs were sent home last Friday. Steve Simpson's photographers did a great job. Please return the proof to the teacher, even if you are not ordering a photo package. Mr. Simpson will pick up the teacher envelopes on Thursday, so that the pictures can come back to you before the end of the school year. Thank you! |
Final SCRIP Order Monday, May 21 |
Mrs. St-Onge would like to let you know that next Monday, May 21, is the final date for SCRIP orders to be placed. This is a great opportunity to purchase end-of-the-year teacher gift cards! Please email Deb St-Onge at debstonge@mac.com if you have any questions about ordering gift cards through SCRIP. MLS receives a percentage back from the merchants. SCRIP has a vast array of gift card choices!

Programs and Graduations |
The end of the school year is approaching! That brings class parties, programs and graduations. The 8th grade class graduates on Tuesday, May 22 at 7 p.m. in the church and Fellowship Hall; the Early Childhood Program (ES1 to Pre-K 4) has their closing program on Wednesday, May 23, at 2 p.m. in the gym, and the Kindergarten class has their graduation program on Wednesday, May 23, at 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall.
The private lessons music recitals will be held on Thursday, May 24, after school in the Fellowship Hall, beginning at 3:45 p.m.
Check with your child's teacher regarding any additional class trips or parties. |
MLS Students Receive National Latin Exam Honors |
Six MLS students received a special Governor's Award from Texas Governor Rick Perry, acknowledging their accomplishments on the National Latin Exam. These students were presented their awards last Friday, May 11. The guest speaker for the award presentations was Attorney John Wittenmyer, Memorial Lutheran Church member and candidate for Harris County 151st District Court Judge. Congratulations to the following students who received the Governor's Award: 5th grader Natalie Ledesma, 6th graders Christopher Meyers and Mitchell Watkins, 7th grader Zachary Stoneburner, and 8th graders Ammaar Alam and Justin Watkins.
Students received special recognition from the National Latin Exam. The Silver Cum Laude Latin Award went to 8th grader Justin Watkins, and he received a silver medal and certificate. Cum Laude Honors went to 6th grader Mitchell Watkins, who received a certificate and ribbon.
Special Awards went to 8th grader Ammaar Alam for Outstanding Achievement in Latin, and 7th grader Zachary Stoneburner, 6th grader Christopher Meyers and 5th grader Natalie Ledesma for Achievement in Latin.
Students receiving "top class honors" awards were: 4th grader Aislinn Bohot, 5th grader Natalie Ledesma, 6th graders Mitchell Watkins and Christopher Meyers, 7th grader Zachary Stoneburner, and 8th graders Ammaar Alam and Justin Watkins.

Thank you for Supporting the Recent Book Fair! |
Deaconess Obersat would like to thank everyone who supported the recent Barnes & Noble Book Fair - whether at the store on Voss, or with online purchases! We are waiting on final totals from the store, but our representative there indicated that our sales were up this year!
Deaconess Obersat would also like to thank more families who donated book books to the school's library - Natalie Ledesma, Tristan Cloud and the Stoneburner family! Our MLS families' support is very much appreciated. |
German Classes During the Summer |
Guten Tag! Our MLS after-school German Club teacher, Frau Angelika, is offering German Enrichment Classes during the summer! Her classes are for ages 3 to 12 years old. Malaria Initiative Goal of 600 Nets Reached! |
Mrs. Fredenburg is happy to announce that our school-wide goal of 600 mosquito nets has been reached as of today's Chapel offerings! A total of $6,006.16 was received in donations this year. A special "thank you" to Pre-school student Lance Mercado and his family for a recent donation that will purchase 10 nets! We thank all parents, students and faculty for helping to achieve this goal that will help the children in Africa combat the disease of Malaria.

Congratulations to our MLS Valedictorian and Co-Salutatorians |
This year's Valedictorian is Justin Watkins. He will attend Westbury Christian High School, where he received an academic scholarship. He hopes to play basketball. Co-Valedictorians are Ammaar Alam and Charles Filby. Ammaar will attend Michael DeBakey High School for the Health Professions. Ammaar plans to go to medical school to become a heart surgeon. Charles will attend Bellaire High School and will take Pre-AP classes and will enter their International Baccalaureate(IB) program.

Last Day of School May 25 - 1/2 Day with Noon Dismissal |
The last official day of this school year is Friday, May 25. There is noon dismissal for everyone - Infants through the 8th grade. There is no childcare available that afternoon. Teachers will be in end-of-year meetings and they will need to clean rooms and get ready for summer time. Monday, May 28, is Memorial Day, which is a national holiday. Childcare is closed on that day as well. Summer begins on Tuesday, May 29. |

Junior Taylor Roberson received the Athletic Award for Cheerleading.
Freshmen Joshua Fredenburg and Rebecca Volkers attained the Honor Roll - Joshua the Merit Honor Roll (3.5 GPA) and Rebecca the Star Honor Roll (3.75 GPA).
