Welcome to Everyone |
Memorial Lutheran School has been in the process of re-accreditation. The team of five was on our campus Sunday through Tuesday of this week. They spent their time reviewing materials that were provided to them ahead of time, as well as visiting classrooms and talking with faculty and staff. The team members were - Dave Glienke, team leader and Principal at Pilgrim Lutheran School; Lisa Schmidt, teacher at St. Paul Lutheran School in Serbin; Blake Johnson, teacher at Founders Classical School in Spring; Cathy Swanstrom, Early Childhood Director at Immanuel Lutheran School in Houston, and Lance Gerard, Principal at Our Savior Lutheran School in Houston. The team met with the faculty Tuesday afternoon and informed everyone that MLS will be recommended for re-accreditation by the Accreditation Commission. MLS is nationally and state accredited by the Lutheran School Accreditation Commission. We are also recognized by the Texas Education Agency and TEPSAC (Texas Private School Accreditation Commission).
I thank our faculty, staff and parents who helped us throughout this re-accreditation process.
Have a great weekend!
Darrell Schepmann, Principal

Counselor's Corner |
Dear MLS Families:
This month I have had the pleasure to discuss FAIRNESS with all of our students in Pre-K - 8th Grade.
- In Pre-K we talked about how much more fun it is to share a toy or take turns, than just playing by yourself.
- Our Kindergartners made sure we followed the rules for handing out treats and talked about the importance of following the rules and giving everyone an equal chance.
- In 1st and 2nd grade we talked about what it's like looking at the world from another friend's perspective by "standing in each other's shoes" (actually standing in paper cutouts of our friend's shoes and noticing how the view of the room is different from where they are standing).
- Our 3rd and 4th graders worked very hard to come up with fair and equitable rules as we played a familiar game in two groups. They learned about negotiation and mutual respect as they determined who would get a turn, what order would be used to determine who goes next, and which group would start first.
- Our 5th-8th graders learned about different theories of Substantive Fairness - does a reward go to the person who needs it the most, the person who has achieved the most, the person with the most seniority, or the person with the best attitude, or the person with the best connections? We had great discussion!
There was a great item in he news (Wednesday, March 21, 2012) that specifically talked about fairness in the NFL. If you or your child have an interest in sports, this Sports Illustrated Online Article could make for an interesting discussion about fairness:

MLS Spirit Night at Chick-fil-A - April 12 - 5 to 8 p.m. |
Join us at Chick-fil-A on Westheimer (near Fondren) for another MLS Spirit Night on Thursday, April 12. Come and view the Science Fair projects, then head on down to Chick-fil-A for dinner! A percentage from the evening's receipts will come back to MLS!
It is a fun time to enjoy friends from MLS. The Chick-fil-A cow will come by and say hello to us again at car pool in the afternoon. |

It is time for Spring Cleaning! If you have any books that you would like clear off of your shelves at home, consider donating them to MLS! Deaconess Obersat would love to have them for the school library - thanks so much!
