Welcome to Everyone

I hope everyone had a nice Valentines Day yesterday! The faculty and children are having fun with Lutheran Schools Week this week. As you can see from the photo above, the students had fun with mismatch day on Monday, wearing all kinds of outfits that did not match!

Yesterday morning each family should have received a special "thank you" breakfast bag. MLS appreciates all of our families and we thank you for letting us care for and educate your child.

Have a great week!

MLS Basketball

The Varsity Boys team is heading to Austin this Friday to particiapte in the State Basketball tournament for Lutheran schools, hosted primarily at Concordia University, with games also at Redeemer and St. Paul Lutheran schools. Schools from primarily the Houston, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio areas will be there. State is always a fun time for our players.  Our boys play their first game at 4 p.m. against Immanuel from Gidding, TX.

Elementary teams play on Saturdays. The 1st grade team plays Regis at MDUMC at 10 a.m. and the 3rd grade team plays St. Cecilia at St. Jerome at 3 p.m.  Best of luck to all of our teams!

Go Mustangs!

Bible Bowl Match This Saturday, February 18

Our Junior Bible Bowl team of 4th and 5th graders has a match this Saturday, February 18, at 9:15 a.m.

Bible Bowl is a fun competition between Lutheran Schools where a moderator asks Bible-knowledge questions and the children buzz in to answer. Points are awarded and the team with the most points wins the match!  Sherry Kitchell and 5th grade teacher, Sarah Martin, coach the team.  Good luck this Saturday!

Classes Singing in Church this Sunday, February 19

The 1st and 2nd grade classes are singing in the 8:15 a.m. service this Sunday, February 19, and the 5th grade and Schola Cantorum are singing in the late service at 11:00 a.m., also this coming Sunday.

Presidents Day Holiday Next Monday, February 20

There is no school next Monday, Presidents Day, February 20. Parents with children in Early Start 1 through 8th grade should fill out the special childcare reservation form and return it to the school office by Friday, February 17. The form is attached here for you, but was also sent home.  If you have a little one in the Infant Program, please let the teacher know if you will be here on Monday. We will need to determine childcare staffing for this non-school day. Thanks!

Go Texan Day February 24 - Dress Western!

"Go Texan Day" is set for Friday, February 24.  The Parent Teacher League will provide lunch for all students, staff and faculty!  Thank you to the PTL and Catering for Kids! All children are encouraged to dress in western attire that day - hats, boots, jeans, western shirts, etc.  Let's kick off the rodeo season in style!

Counselor's Corner from Diane Lamberson

February has us "seeing red" - but not out of anger - for CARING!

All of our students have been thinking about what it means to care for one another, and how to respond when a friend is having a bad day.  For example, the Pre-K classes have learned that you can help people feel better by showing kindness and caring - especially if they are feeling grumpy or angry.

As one Pre-K student said when I asked,  "What if the person doesn't want a hug or doesn't want to play with you and they are still grumpy?"  Their reply was, "Try again later."  Great answer!

Students who were recognized for caring behavior:
Kindergarten - Maddox Morris
1st - Alexa Chapa
2nd - Alyssa Meyers
3rd - Magdalena Obersat
4th - Ariana Kunz
5th - Matthew Girma
6th - Tara Nored
7th - Zachary Stoneburner
8th - Joyce Mambo

Ephesians 4:32 - "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

Blessings on your week!

Group Class Pictures Monday, February 27

Steve Simpson Photography will be here on Monday, February 27, to take group class pictures. Children in PS to 8 should be dressed in their Chapel uniforms, since it is a Chapel day.  Children in Infants through Early Start should be dressed neatly for the class picture.  Look for forms to come home regarding ordering the class photo - it is a great keepsake of your child's class.

Graduation Congratulations
