| This Week: Soooo Much To Read |
[UPDATE.... check the note on "Holiday Strength" below. Now on to this week's ssue...]
Hi. My name is Scott. And I'm a book junkie. (Crowd Response: "Hi Scott!")
Perhaps it's because one of my top 5 strengths from Strengths Finder 2.0 is "Learner - deriving energy by the steady and deliberate journey from ignorance to competence."
What I DO know: left alone in Barnes & Noble without supervision I can be, and have been, dangerous.
Right now, I have over fifteen books by my bed. Fifteen! I'm surprised my wife hasn't declared an edict that ALL BOOKS OVER THE HEIGHT OF THE LAMPSHADE BE EXILED TO THE BASEMENT SHELVES!
This week's issue addresses the negative impact of information overload. If you suffer from a nagging anxious feeling you aren't keeping up with the flow of information, you're not alone. Feeling like we're behind robs us of the ability to serve at our best.
The first step to dealing with this problem is to DEFINE YOUR PURPOSE. When you are clear on that, you can begin the right journey from ignorance to competence based on that purpose.
QUESTION of the week:
What is your purpose?
Next Steps:
-
Write down 3 sentences that would help you describe to a stranger what makes you tick;
-
From those sentences, come up with a "t-shirt" version of your purpose (a short, pithy phrase that would fit on a t-shirt);
-
Take inventory of your books. Which ones help you pursue your purpose? Put them in one pile. Which ones don't? Put them in another pile (aka the trash or to a local library).
-
Develop a book-by-book journey from ignorance to competence based on your purpose and stick to it.
