Greetings!
Grace has been blessed with a great group of graduating
Seniors - congratulations, Class of '09!
As I cleaned my office desk I thought about all the adult choices they
would soon face and then it happened! I
unearthed a great article written by Tim Sanford that was worthy of a re-read -
actually, it's so good I wanted to share it with you and our '09 Class of
graduating seniors.
The article was about being "responsible" for our
choices. To paraphrase, Tim said, there
are "Three rules of Life" and if we follow them life will become less
complicated.
"Rule 1: You live and die by your own choices
People and circumstances influence us. We can't control that. But we do
have control over our response to
those people and circumstances. We all
have choices, and our lives will move in the direction of either life or death
with every choice we make. It's called free will - given to us by God
himself. We live by our own choices, not
by someone else's choices.
Rule 2: You can
choose smart or choose stupid. Since we are in control of our choices, the question for us
is "Will we choose smart or choose stupid?"
We don't get to decide which actions and behaviors go on the
stupid list or which go on the smart list - no one does. The smart list and stupid list have been
predetermined for all of us by God's Word.
Rule 3: There's always somebody or some circumstance whose
job it is to make your life miserable when you choose stupid.
If you choose stupid, sooner or later that choice will come
back to bite you."
Looks pretty simple, doesn't it? Looks can be deceiving...it might take a little
work...especially when good advice remains buried under a pile the stuff we call
life. I hope that you choose to take a
little time this summer to poke your head up above the circumstances of the day
and take a fresh look, make fresh choices in our walk with Christ.
Trust in the Lord
with all your heart;
do not depend on your own understanding.
Seek his will in all you do,
and he will show you which path to take. Proverbs 3:5 & 6
Blessings,
