| Missions...it's something we live! |
"Missions." For me, the very word brings up images of a man in Africa wearing a pith helmet and surrounded by bare-skinned natives. I grew up thinking that "missions" is a program that exists in the church budget to support people I don't know in places where I would never travel.
I am grateful to God that He opened my eyes and gave me a greater understanding of what it means to practice "missions." It's not something we support, it's something we do. It's a lifestyle that we live and a mindset that guides us in making decisions about our time, resources and life purpose. It's about being the kind of people that God wants us to be, whereever and wheneven we live.
It is our goal at Grace Church to give people a vision for missions - to help them develop a global mission mindset. The first step in this journey is simply thinking beyond ourselves to recognize that there is a world around us. It begins with our neighbor next door; the family down the street; across town and into the inner city. It continues around the country and around the world, as we become increasingly more aware of what we can do to make a difference in the world in which we live.
As we begin the New Year I want to encourage you to consider your own definition of missions. Is it Biblical, or does it just fit the kind of lifestyle you want to live? The challenge for all of us here at Grace will be to be mission minded people, beginning in our own neighborhood and community and reaching around the world. We are going to be presenting some unique opportunities to be more involved in practicing the kind of mission mindset I believe God is calling us to. The question is; are we ready and willing?
In His service,

The following interview was conducted with Jim Welchly. Jim & Kate have been married for 2 years and they have 4 children and 4 grandchildren.
What has God been teaching you lately?
Growing older means I have more time than ever before with which to exercise the gifts He has given me. Instead of slowing down, I should be accelerating when I cross the finish line.
What is the most important thing you've learned about walking with God?
No matter how many mistakes you make, He will always forgive you, lift you up and put you back on track.
How do you keep your time with God fresh?
Daily prayer, reading God's Word and enjoying Christian music.
Who was influential in your spiritual growth?
My first grade teacher stayed in touch with my family for over fifty years. She would always pray for us and was an inspiration for Christian living.
If you could experience an event in the Bible, which one would you choose?
I would have liked to be with Joshua when the walls of Jericho came down. It must have been somewhat like August 1991 when I saw the iron curtain come down in Russia.
How has being in a Life Group at Grace impacted your life and the life of your family?
Being in a Life Group has been a great time to share in the lives of fellow Christians and strengthen one another in our walk with the Lord. You can really get to know people on a deeper level, share in their joys and sorrows and be able to pray with them without any hesitation.
What is something the people of Grace would be surprised to know about you?
I have an HO gauge train village built with the help of my grandchildren. We enjoy working on it and adding new items that we discover in various hobby shops and on the internet.
Some Day I'd like to... .
go to Israel and see all of the Holy Land. |

"The Christmas Brunch on the 1st of December was a beautiful morning for 60 Grace sisters and 40 guests! God gets the praise for the encouraging, glorifying day we shared.
I can't possibly do justice to Margaret's talk; but she challenged us to take our faith in God further. The Word convinces us that "someone is behind the scenes." Faith in that fact takes us from anxiety to peace, from bondage to freedom, from victim to victor.Oh! The benefits of living in the sovereignty of God!"
Laura Hall, Women's Ministries Director
"I love the word, "providence." Margaret Ashmoor explained that the definition means "pro- video" which means "before - see" (I didn't know that) - which means God sees all. It is comforting to me to know that God sees all and works all things together for our good. So often I forget these important truths."
Mary Taveras
"God poured out His blessings at the Christmas Brunch. The music was exquisite, the decor was fit for a queen, the food was delicious. And I felt as if I came away with a word from the Lord delivered especially for me!"
