Real People
The following interview was conducted with Kevin DeStefano. Kevin serves the Lord at Grace as Elder and Life Group Director. Kevin is a committed believer who is married to Robin and they have six children. Kevin and Robin began attending Grace in 2003.
What has God been teaching you lately?
God has been teaching me to let go. I am learning in fresh new ways to let go of everything, so nothing gets in the way of Him. I can say with my mouth, "I would give up anything for the Lord," but I am realizing my heart is not always in sync with my mouth. The Lord has been teaching me that my possessions are not mine, but His. The Lord has made me a steward of them, but they are His to do with what He may.
What is the most important thing you've learned about walking with God?
God will never leave me nor forsake me! No matter what may happen to me in my life, no matter what someone may say or do to me, no matter what circumstances arise in my life, no matter who may hurt me or betray a trust, God has been, is, and will be there loving me and teaching me through those times.
How do you keep your time with God fresh?
I look at my time with God as an all-the-time relationship. Where my time with Robin and the children is limited to when we are together or when we may talk by telephone, my time with God is not bound by those things. I pray to and worship Him throughout my day as I drive, as I work, as I observe His creation around me.
Who was influential in your spiritual growth?
Although there have been several men in the course of my life who have invested time in my spiritual growth, the person who has the greatest influence in my spiritual growth is my wife, Robin. She is my helpmeet, my sounding board, and my spiritual partner. The Lord uses her in great ways in my life.
If you could experience an event in the Bible, which one would you choose?
If I could experience an event in the Bible, it would be the resurrection of Christ. In my life I continue to seek a deeper understanding of the incredible love Christ has for me and the incredible sacrifice he made for me. The resurrection is the pinnacle of God's love and the pivotal event that makes my eternal life possible.
How has being in a Life Group at Grace impacted your life and the life of your family?
Life Groups are where my life and my family's life meet the lives of other families. A life group is a safe place for us to form deep and lasting relationships where we care for one another, grow spiritually, and have an impact for Christ.
What is something the people of Grace would be surprised to know about you?
I like rappelling and white water rafting!
Some day I'd like to...
...be an integral part of a church planting multiplication movement in New England. God loves His church. He sent His Son to die and be resurrected for it. I love and want to grow in my love for what He loves - His Church
