Festival of Sand
If a trip to the beach equals hours of playing in the sand for your family, then see how you compare with the participants in this year's Festival of Sand competition, benefiting Kids on the Block. Schools from around the area, plan and work with their kids to create a sand sculpture to go along with this year's theme, "Animal Kingdom." Competitors will be sculpting all day Friday with judging at 4 p.m. The top three sculptures win cash prizes!
Come out early Friday evening to see the sand creations, congratulate the winners, enjoy a puppet show, play some corn hole, and let the kids play for a while, all for free!
South Central Kentucky Kids on the Block is a non-profit, educational puppet troupe of more than thirty puppets that offers K-6 children programs on physical challenges, medical conditions, and social and safety issues. Poppins, Pirates and The Patriot
The Symphony at WKU invites you to introduce your kids to the magic of "A Spoon Full of Sugar" and other movie music from classic children's movies! Area orchestra students will join The Symphony for Poppins, Pirates and The Patriot this Saturday featuring music from Pirates of the Caribbean, Mary Poppins, The Patriot, Harry Potter, Alice in Wonderland, and more!
Bring a picnic, a blanket and the whole family for this free hillside concert. Other activities include an
"Instrument Petting Zoo" by Royal Music and Story Time by Barnes & Noble. When music and movement are a natural, joyous part of childhood, children benefit greatly in many areas of life. Language development, concentration, fine motor skills, listening, problem solving, and coordination are all impacted by early music and movement education.
