When proponents of the state-of-the-art ballpark in downtown Bowling Green first envisioned the facility, they certainly hoped it could help our city host more major events. One such event hits the stands this week as the Sun Belt Conference Baseball Championships takes place at the downtown Bowling Green Ballpark. Hosts WKU and the BG Hot Rods welcome players, coaches and fans from all across the region.

Beginning Wednesday at 11 a.m., the tournament features a round robin format that showcases eight of the ten SBC teams competing against each other in two four-team pools. Locals can cheer on the Toppers as they face top-seeded Florida Atlantic on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m., against South Alabama on Thursday at 7 p.m., and again on Saturday at 7 p.m. against Louisiana-Monroe.

17th Convention of Bosniaks in North America

Bowling Green is home to more than 5,000 Bosnians, but this weekend, the small city welcomes many more for the 17th Convention of Bosniaks in North America. This national event offers many Bosnian-American families and friends the chance to reconnect, but also offers members of the host community the opportunity to learn more about our neighbors through cultural, culinary, sporting and religious activities.

Beginning Saturday at 8 a.m. will be the Congress Cup Soccer Tournament featuring 30 adult amateur teams at Lovers Lane Soccer Complex. An Opening Ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at the Bosnian Islamic Center to kick off the day's cultural program including food, dance, and music that is free to the public. Then Saturday night will be a ticketed concert at the Sloan Convention Center featuring two prominent Bosnian artists.

Sunday morning at 10 a.m. is the Grand Opening and Dedication of the Bosnian Islamic Center followed by a Gala Dinner that evening again at Sloan Convention Center. Call 270-320-6151 or visit the link below for more information.
