Greetings!
Have you done it this
year yet?

I usually try and do it as close to New Years Day as possible. Last
year I did it while I was having a break in Singapore.
For several years I've done it at the Park Hyatt
in the Rocks, Sydney.
One year I was a bit tight financially, so I did it in a
local park. This year though I was back to the Park Hyatt for one of the most
important nights of the year.

My most important night
of the year
People who know me, know that the first opportunity I
get in January, I set aside for an annual ritual. I have a date with a special
person in my life. Quality time devoted to the most important
relationship I will ever have. The one I have with myself.
On this date I do two things.
1. I write down all my achievements over the previous 12
months and congratulate myself. (Hence the special meal and premium glass of chardonnay) 2. I write down my goals and dreams for the coming year.
It's fascinating to look back at the previous year's list.
I can check off so many things. Those that haven't been accomplished go on the New
Year list again if I still want them to happen. One that I have on my list for
several years (my autobiography becoming a feature film) took another step closer a few
weeks ago. Writing down everything that has happened in the previous 12 months
can be extremely encouraging and empowering once you begin to list them all. Try it!
I'm sure you'll find more than you realise.
Initially I thought I hadn't achieved as much in 2009
as I did in 2008. As I began to reflect, I realized that much of what I had
accomplished had been behind the scenes and supporting others. There were 45 things on
that list. Some were small things like, got through a bout of
depression (maybe not all that small). Others were very significant like being
voted One of the 25 Most Influential Gay and Lesbian Australians for the second
time. Others were great achievements in community work.
The next
thing I did was write down my goals and dreams for 2010. This year I
categorised them and came up with 32. One has already happened; to be on an
ABC TV show. We filmed last Sunday and will go to air in the next couple of
weeks. Very exciting.
These are
the categories for my 2009 goals.
- Business/career
- Financial
- Family
- Health
- Community
- Personal
- Outrageous. Yes I have a section to put things
down that are wild, crazy dreams. Just one or two. If they happened it
would be amazing. Is this realistic you ask? Well in previous years some
of the outrageous things I wrote down actually happened so I never leave
that section out now. I'm now glad I dreamed big!
So if you
haven't done this yet for the year I'd encourage you to try it. It's worked for
me ever since I became a serious goal setter. Email me your list if you like
and I'll make a note to send you an email at the end of the year to see how
you've gone.
Dream both
realistically and dream big.
Believe in
yourself and your ability to grow beyond what you have known before.
And have a
great 2010.

Testimonial
After conducting months
of extensive due diligence on the coaching process overall, on coaches that
fitted my needs, and on Anthony himself as a coach, I admittedly still approached
coaching with some level of scepticism that it might exist somewhere between
scented candles, crystal therapy and dolphin rebirthing. Should this have eventuated I was prepared to
chalk coaching up to a life experience, quickly move on, and write the
investment off as a bad debt.
Thankfully none of
this eventuated.
Working with Anthony through the 'Dare to be Your Best' program, I believe we explored 3 areas that
are integrally linked: clarity, consciousness and confidence.
This program created
the space for me to become clear about who I was, where I was, and what I
really wanted in life. While this sounds
esoteric, which personally is my complete antithesis, using the analytical techniques
of this program to map and track my progress relieved my initial hesitations.
With the clarity I
gained around my aspirations, I became more conscious regarding what I and
others around me where doing to achieve and / or sabotage these goals, and the
resulting impact.
With both clarity
around what I wanted to achieve, and the awareness of what was occurring and
the consequences, this engendered the confidence to challenge and confront
various obstacles that were holding me back.
An unexpected pleasant and surprising by product of this was the degree
of excitement about the future that was generated.
Anthony has always
acted in the most committed and professional manner, on occasions going beyond
what was reasonable to expect. His
obvious experience comes through as he can pick the right time to push forward,
challenge and confront; or encourage the other party to explore options in a judgement
free environment.
I was relieved to
never hear mention of candles or crystals, and no dolphins were harmed during
the 12 week program.
