Drano update Puppy, mom, five siblings are thriving in foster care Remember Drano, the pint-sized pup who accidently fell down the drain in June? Well, he isn't so pint-sized anymore, as you can see from his picture! Drano, his mother and five siblings are thriving in a loving foster home and are on schedule to become available for adoption this month. This little guy really touched the hearts of people in our community - and beyond. His story was featured all up and down the West Coast and as far away as Colorado, Minnesota, Florida and North Carolina. We owe many thanks to the loving foster family who took Drano, his mom and five siblings into their home. If you would like to make a life-saving difference for animals just like them, please contact stacif@escondidohumanesociety.org (kittens and puppies) or julieh@escondidohumanesociety.org (adult dogs) to learn how you can join our dedicated foster care team. |
The Charitable Gift Annuity A Win-Win Proposition
The truth is most people are surprised by the benefits of charitable gifts. Careful planning actually makes it possible to enjoy personal or family benefits and realize philanthropic goals by taking full advantage of charitable incentives. The Charitable Gift Annuity, available through our affiliation with The San Diego Foundation, is a perfect example of this.
An annuity - and a gift Typically, these two things are viewed as virtually opposite actions. Annuity refers to the creation of an annual income stream, while a Gift gives it away. But the Charitable Gift Annuity combines these two ideas. In practical terms, the Gift Annuity is a contract between a qualified charity and an individual or couple. The contract provides fixed payments for life and an ultimate gift to charity. The Charitable Gift Annuity is flexible enough to meet the objectives of almost any financial plan and can be funded with a minimum contribution of $25,000. The contract can run for one or two lives . . . with rates on one-life Charitable Gift Annuities as high as 9.5% (based on age). And the benefits don't end with the attractive annuity rate. Because of the ultimate gift to charity, participation also results in an immediate charitable income tax deduction to help lower your taxes.
Here is an example of how it works Mrs. Humane Society Donor, age 85, invests $30,000 in CD money, earning $600 (2%) per year in a Charitable Gift Annuity with The San Diego Foundation, naming Escondido Humane Society as the ultimate beneficiary. Here are the results for Mrs. Humane Society: - She more than quadruples her income to $2,430 per year
- Her payments are guaranteed for life & backed by the assets of The San Diego Foundation
- She receives a charitable income tax deduction of $16,714 for participating
- 80.4% of the income she receives will be tax free through her life expectancy
- She is able to make a significant gift to the Escondido Humane Society
If you would like to see just how a Gift Annuity might help you realize your objectives, contact Development Director Abigail Kouzi at development@escondidohumanesociety.org or (760) 888-2240. |
August featured pet: Juliann This little girl is ready to be your best pal As you can see by her photo, Juliann is cute as a button. And besides that, she also has gorgeous green eyes that are full of love for the kind people taking care of her at EHS. Juliann is a lively, playful 2-year-old who could entertain you for hours if given the chance. You might even mistake her for a kitten with all of her energy. But, the best part is, she also loves to get petted and will be at your side upside down just begging for belly rubs. She gets along beautifully with other cats and most likely will do just fine with children and other pets. Ask our adoption counselors or check out our new brochures on how to introduce new pets into the family. Juliann can be adopted for just $55 in August. If you are interested in adding Juliann to your family, please call our Adoptions Center at (760) 888-2247, (760) 888-2244 or (760) 888-2245. You can meet Juliann and many other lovable pets at the Escondido Humane Society, 3450 E. Valley Parkway in Escondido, or visit them online at www.escondidohumanesociety.org. The Escondido Humane Society Adoption Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week. |
Hana's Happy Tail As told by her new family
I just wanted to write a note to thank you for giving us the opportunity to adopt the most wonderful dog! We adopted Hana (her shelter name was Tipper) last October. When we first brought her home, my husband and I were not sure that we could handle the responsibility with what we got ourselves into. However, with her sweet and fun-loving personality - all of our concerns were alleviated very quickly. We fell in love with Hana in no time.
We were told that Hana was found with a rope around her neck walking the streets. We had no idea what her story was, but we did know that she was now in a good place with lots of love. Hana is a snuggle bug that loves all people and dogs. She is a smart little darling with LOTS of personality! We have many nicknames for her now, including "wiggle butt," as her whole body shakes with joy when she sees people and dogs. We love coming home from work when "wiggles" greets us with kisses!
Hana is now a happy little girl - going on lots of walks, car rides, dog park visits and snuggling with us every evening on the couch while watching TV. We love her with all of our hearts and cannot imagine our lives without her. We look forward to many more years of fun and love with our Hana Bear!
Thank you for all of the work that you do to help these wonderful animals, and thank you for giving us our Hana. |
