News from Blue Moon Ranch
The pace of life at the ranch is slowing as we prepare for the winter season ahead. Ahhh, it feels so nice to build a fire and get ready to Fibernate! We wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving and encourage you to remember that at the end of the day what really matters is family and friends and the people you love.   Ed & Linda

I know, I know, I have always said I won't sell Minnie, but this is a one month offering, you won't find her for sale anywhere else, and it is a good policy to offer your best for sale. Minnie was a
shiny black beauty when we first saw her with a average fiber diameter of 18 microns.  Hard to beat that in a true black! So of course we bought her.  She has turned out to be a great mom, with a very laid back personality. She has plenty of milk for her babies and is a very attentive mom.  She has been bred to Patagonia's Aysen for a summer 2010 cria. This combination produced Merlin, our gray herdsire, when we put this pair together before. If you would like more photos of Minnie, please let me know.

Yes, I do know these are "difficult economic times". I also believe that life is more than just economics.   In this month of giving thanks, I am grateful every day for my life with alpacas and decided it might be a good time to share that with you!  If you decide alpacas should be in your life, we'd love to help you get started.  Let us know if you'd like to come to one of our Saturday classes!

Cell Phone Problems Solved!
After months of frustration with no reception, missed calls, and sounding like I talked with a "sock in my mouth", I finally have a phone and service that works at the ranch !!! I still can't answer every call, if I'm working with the animals or moving hay around, but if you do call I will return your call because I'll be able to hear what you say in a message!  I'm also getting better at texting so don't hesitate to try that as well.  I look forward to hearing from you!
 Fun with Fiber
With the slowing down of the economy, we expected that linda t cardinganimals sales would be slow for a while.... so what a great time to learn to use and market the fabulous fiber our animals give us each year.  We've made felted hats, knitted hats, luxury hand spun yarns and my newest venture - blended batts (more about those in the next newsletter). We have dyed fleeces and roving making some of the most interesting combinations. The point is fall yarnyou CAN make money with the fiber and maybe even have fun doing so! I have considered teaching a class to share all the ways I have learned to be profitable with alpaca fiber to include different ways of selling to the end user. If this is something you'd be interested in, please let me know. The fee for this class will depend on number of interested students. Email is still the best way to reach me.  [email protected]

Tip of the Month: There are times when you need to move a group of alpacas through a gate, or into an area but you don't have the three helpers with you that would make this a simple job. I discovered quite by accident one day that by holding a piece of PVC pipe, my arms now look 16 feet wide and it was easy to move the animals!  The alpacas are never touched by the PVC , and as I move very slowly and calmly they are efficiently moved in the direction I need them to go. Not a single alpaca tries to get past my long white arms. As you can see, it has no effect whatsoever on dogs! :)

Thanks for taking the time to read this newsletter.  Please let us know if you have any comments or suggestions.
