Why Blue Moon?

alpaca love Happy Valentine's Day!

If you are not yet in love with alpacas, this would be a good month to get to know one or two! Because we LOVE our alpacas so much, we will board any that you buy this month for one year at no charge!  That is a savings of over $1200 per alpaca!   If you don't need the boarding services, give us a call, mention that you saw this in the newsletter, and we'll give you a very sweet deal on the alpacas of your choice.  This offer applies to breeding stock - visit our web site  for our special offer on young males.
Hellooooo ..... are you listening too much?
So how in the world can you listen to the dreary economic news and still be happy each day?   Tune it all out?  Put all your money under the mattress?   It really helps to realize a few things - the current situation  is temporary.  Houses, cars and alpacas will all be sold in the future to buyers who are now in a "wait and see" mode.   And, some people ARE buying cars, houses and alpacas now!  You just won't hear as much about that!   So surround yourself with things that you love, keep your attitude as positive as you can, and hug an alpaca whenever possible!

Barn Cam changes to Alpaca Cam

We have had to make some changes on the web site and one of them was to  rename the barn cam page so it would work better . The new page is called the Alpaca Cam and the web address is www.bluemoonranch.net/alpacacam.htm  Eventually the old barn cam page will disappear, so please change your favorites or bookmarks if this is a page you visit often.

Below are some images saved from the alpaca cam over the last month.

Some Things I've learned
It's been 10 years since we began sharing our lives with alpacas.  So that's a lot of time to learn some good stuff!  (especially for someone who grew up in the city of Chicago) This list is a work in progress, but I thought I'd share it with you now even though it will continue to grow.   Most of these lessons I learned the hard way.  Like when the eggs cracked in my pocket after lifting a bale of hay, I learned to empty my pockets first! ....read on, enjoy....  and since I am still learning, come back next month to see what else I figured out!

*Empty the chicken eggs from your pockets as soon as you gather them

*Difficult births usually happen on Sundays or long holiday weekends

*Alpacas are way smarter than they let you know

*Make hay bale steps in the hay barn as you take bales down

*Even the very best vets make mistakes

*Being outside with animals all day is the best cure for whatever ails you

*People attracted to alpacas are some of the best people in the world

*Most things will work themselves out if you can have the patience to let that happen

*The most important choice you make every morning is the attitude you choose to have that day

*Death is part of life for the animals who live here - and to die of old age is a blessing

*An alpaca mom giving birth is exciting for the whole herd

*The perfect fence would be a series of gates

*If you see a few animals chewing cud, chances are the rest are fine too

*If you see a few animals staring at something, better hurry and see what it is!

*New crias get to act however they want for a few days, by one week old, they'll get spit at for misbehaving

*Moms and daughters often stay friends for many years

*Boys like watching the girls, visiting the girls and watching the girls again

*Never ever ever borrow Ed's tools unless you plan to put them back immediately

*Spinning alpaca fiber is a wonderful and relaxing pastime

*If you leave your camera in the house, you will miss some amazing shots

*Once you really love alpacas, you can never have enough
baby blanket using Bull's fleece Alpaca Project Gallery
I am very excited about  the projects we are getting for the gallery!  Please send more photos!   Pictured here is a baby blanket made by Robin Bromley, inspired by fleece from our stud muffin Bull.  She will give it to her granddaughter for a christening blanket and then she can wear it for a shawl when she grows up.  Amazing! To see more photos of this blanket and other new projects added to the gallery click here.
