Alpacas?

If there is something that makes you smile every day, that makes you get outside and keep moving, that makes you happy to be home after a day away, then you should surround yourself with that.  And THAT is exactly why I have alpacas!
We want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving and we'd like to take this opportunty to tell you that we are grateful for all of you who are interested in the ongoings at Blue Moon Ranch.     Linda & Ed

Management tip of the month
To relax an alpaca without the use of drugs, try essential oil of lavender. It really works! Rub it inside the ear, or on the foot pad and take a few deep breaths for yourself while you wait for it to work. Great when trimming nails, getting blood samples or any time you need a "high energy" alpaca to cooperate with you.  You need to use a good quality essential oil, usually not found in a grocery store
lavender Try  mountainroseherbs.com .... that's where I get my lavender along with other herbs that I use to keep the Blue Moon herd in tip top shape (more about that in the next newsletter).  If you use lavender with an alpaca and have a good experience, please let us know!

What's new in the ranch storesoap bowl?  We have added some great new soaps for the holidays. Try Winter Spice or Grandma's Kitchen and I bet you won't go back to Dial!   What does this have to do with alpacas???   Nothing!  I simply found that soap making is fun, and we have become addicted to the affordable luxury of cold process soaps. So I make it and offer it to friends and visitors.  Soaps are $4 per bar or 3 for $10.  Take your 2 favorites and put them in a porcelain soap bowl for only $12.  Soaps are curing now, but will be ready to ship by Dec 1.  To read more about the soaps now available , click here.  Pick up a bar or 2 at our Holiday Open House Dec 13.  Read more about the Open House below.
CCNF Truffle arrives in Utah!  After 5 days in a very comfortable alpaca hauling trailer while enjoying a trip from Vermont, Truffle is back in Utah.   She is  pregnant with her Archangel cria, and for once we really would like to have a boy!  After several weeks in quarantine she is now fitting in nicely with the Blue Moon Herd and we are counting the days until her cria arrives next May.  Stay tuned for this one!

Holiday Open House!  Please join us on Saturday December 13  for some no hassle shopping at the ranch.  No mall headaches, just some hot chocolate and the chance to pick up a few unique gifts.  Linda from Alpacas at Sundance Ranch will have her knitted goodies here and we have plenty of alpaca socks, gloves and other great alpaca items to fill Santa's bag. All our soaps will be ready and we'd really love to see you. We'll be open from 10 to 4 & we hope you will come!  Send an email if you have questions about this event.
Free Yarn!
Our November/December yarn special is a great one!  Buy 3 skeins of Teewinot (white) and get one skein for free! This yarn could be dyed really easily so have fun with it.  Teewinot is the cornerstone of our breeding program and his yarn is still very soft!  Three 100 yard skeins for $25. You choose the 4th (free) one.  Go to the yarn page to order yarn.
Offer Expires: Dec 15. 2008
