Greetings!

amy soft edgeSeptember Greetings!

It is starting to look and feel like Fall!  With the temperature dropping, my taste buds are turning towards soups, and stews for dinner.  Also, our garden is winding down carrotswith the vegetables and CARROTS have been the big producer this year.  The recipe I share with you this month was made with our homegrown carrots (pictured left) in the soup.  How's that for saving money!

Did you know that this month is National Coupon Month!  It is simply recognition by the Promotion Marketing Association of the evolution of coupons and the benefits. According to the PMA, 89% of the population say they use coupons when shopping for grocery, household and healthcare items at supermarkets.  The PMA also found that 97% of primary shoppers use coupons at supermarkets, saving an average of 7% on their grocery bills.  By looking at the monthly savings reported by our customers, monthly savings range between 15% - 40% off their grocery bill.  So, we are celebrating double, triple and even quadruple the national average savings for our customers!!

Welcome to all the new subscribers!  Thank you for adding my newsletter to your e-mail list.  My hope is you find new ideas and inspiration for spending money wisely.

Wishing everyone great savings!

mealTIP
Frozen Fish is a great buy!

The main course in most of my meal plans is the one item that consistently costs the most so I am forever looking for the best bargains on meat, fish and poultry.  Our family loves fish and it is hard to find great deals on fresh fish due to the expense associated with bringing the fish fresh to market.  I normally avoid frozen fish simply because in the past I have tasted freezer burn after it was prepared and I don't like this.  But, recently, I learned that the flash freezing methods used these days are pretty advanced.  So, when I saw tuna frozen tuna steak were on sale, I bought a frozen pound ($6.99) and thought I would give them a try.  Afterall, that is a great price!

At Wisegeek.com, I found out that the concept of flash freezing was first developed by Clarence Birdseye.  Yes, that is the frozen vegetable company.  He wanted to find a way to eat fresh vegetables in the winter, and to move produce around without the risk of damage.  Also, he realized that freezing food at extremely cold temperatures well below the freezing point could be an excellent preservation method, so he turned the concept into a massive frozen foods company, inspiring other pioneers to do likewise.

Well, when our tuna steaks came off the grill and we enjoyed our dinner, I could not tell the difference!  Since then I have bought other fish such as Grouper, Haddock and Tilapia and have had the same experience.  So now I check the frozen fish specials and stock up when it's a great deal since the item is already frozen!  I am happy to report that we have consistently been able to enjoy fish in our diet for about the half price of fresh fish!

samplesI love my Couponizer! With three teenagers and a preteen, homeschooling, and working from home as Editor of Molly's Money-Saving Digest, I'm blessed with a pretty full life. I'm all about frugal, and KNOW that coupons save money, but too often my coupons would be piled on the top of the microwave for weeks, waiting to be filed. Not anymore!

A co-worker suggested the Couponizer, and I'm so glad she did! I was able to review the system and also give one away on our www.Econobusters.com blog.  Honestly, this has revolutionized the way I use coupons. Mind you, I take some good-natured teasing, with my family saying things like, "The Couponizer-don't leave home without it." But the fact is I don't leave home without it-and my family loves it too!

Usually one of the kids files coupons for me-they think the sorting system is pretty neat.  They also know they have a much better chance of getting the health and beauty products they want if I have coupons. That's important to three girls, so it's a pretty common sight to see them rifling through the Couponizer before we head out shopping.

I'll be honest, at first it was the colorful, contemporary styling of the Couponizer that appealed to me, but as I've used it over the past few months I've only become more and more impressed with its functionality. The Couponizer WORKS-it's a pleasure to use-and it's saving my family LOTS of money.
