TIP- Spring Clean With Savings In Mind

Ideas for savings as you go about purging and restoring Springtime order!
It's that time of year! Garage sales are appearing all over neighborhoods since most households are purging items that are no longer considered useful and trying to eek out the last bit of monetary value. Also, in this annual process, things that are still considered useful (in other words, they make the cut and get to stay another year) may get freshened up to extend their useful life. So, all of a sudden, household supplies like paper towels, cleaning solutions and storage containers are in great demand. Before you go running out to spend more money on these items, get creative to keep savings in mind:
- Paper Towels - save a tree - use rags (purged men's t-shirts work great!) and sponges
- Cleaning Solutions - hose things off before going in with the chemicals, often this is all it takes to restore something to its former glory. Also, round up coupons when buying cleaning solutions, since you do not have to pay full price! P&G has coupons out in grocery stores right now, ask the customer service desk to help you find them.
- Storage Containers - reuse boxes for items going into long term storage. Round up every conceivable plastic storage tub or container in your house and reuse/re-label (a label maker is a great thing!) until you find out what you really need and then go get it (use a coupon if you can).
Have fun, the end result is always worth the effort! |
TOOL - Carpoolconnect.com
The Internet's #1 resource for carpooling and ridesharing!
Okay - - I filled up my mini-van at an all time high yesterday! I can only imagine how this has impacted daily commuters. So, check out this website to ease fuel costs if you or a family member commutes to work It is an option to explore if you need some relief from the gas pump prices.
I have not personally used the website, however I typed in my zip code to see what was out there. I found local businessmen willing to share space at various times, students looking to form a regular GIRLS only carpool from the suburbs to campus (smart college kids!) and people without cars or temporarily unable to drive willing to pay $200 a month for a ride!
Check out your zip code and see what rides may be out there for you. And as with any internet deal offering personal contact like dating services, please use good judgment.
Moms can carpool too!
We lovingly Jdrive kids all over town to practices, games and lessons, so why not save gas and time by finding out who lives close and offering to carpool? My daughter carpools to tumbling on Tuesdays with 3 other girls who live in our neighborhood or close by and this gives me time to do other things and she enjoys the ride with her friends! These arrangements have their cycles and for a time offer a solution that works for everyone. |
The Couponizer of the Month
Robin Duym
Williamstown, NJ
Amy,
I purchased a new Couponizer and below is a copy of the email I sent to EVERYONE I know! Here it is:
Dear Friends,
Just in case I forget to rave about it tomorrow in our meeting - -
I just went shopping in a whole new way (for me) J I bought the Couponizer online - - you may have seen it on QVC - - it's an organizer for coupons, but much more evolved than your average folder!!
In my first trip, I saved $40 between clipped coupons and my shop rite card! (28 in coupons and 12 from the card) And I bought cleaning products and laundry detergent, and paper products (all the stuff you don't have to buy every month) And I didn't buy stuff just because I had a coupon - - I only bought stuff my family uses!!
I know I sound like a paid advertiser, but I have to share how excited I am - -I wish I started 10 years ago!! It takes a little time to organize and plan your list each week, but I'm sure I'll get faster!
See all the MOPS girls on Tuesday, and I'll talk to everyone else soon!
Love,
Robin
Amy - Thanks so much!!!
Sincerely,
Robin

Sounds like you are stocked for Spring Cleaning and received your savings! Thank you for sharing with your friends and sending me your story, I am proud of your decision to be smart with your money. - Amy |
The Couponizer Cook
Three Cheese and Basil Stuffed Mushrooms
I created this recipe for my family over Spring Break and everyone loved it!
Ingredients:
12 Portabella mushroom caps (2 ½ inch diameter)
1 cup mozzarella cheese
½ cup shaved parmesan cheese
4 oz. goat cheese
3 TB fresh basil, chopped
olive oil
salt
pepper
Combine cheeses and basil in mixing bowl creating a cheese ball, then divide into 12 smaller balls. Place mushroom caps on lightly greased cookie sheet or cupcake pan (the caps fit nicely in this). Drizzle olive oil over mushroom caps, lightly salt and paper each cap. Place a cheese ball in each cap and press down slightly to fill cap.
Broil for 3-4 minutes or until the cheese is melted through and bubbly.
Serves 6
Coupons to use: mozzarella cheese, parmesan cheese, olive oil (or store brands are fine to use) |
