April 2005
The Smartest Ways to Save!

April showers bring May flowers...
With April typically being a rainy month, take this opportunity while you are inside to finish some lingering projects.  Often times we get too many things going and then we wind up with a bunch of unfinished projects that create clutter and go to waste...I know I have done this!  Where's the savings in that?  Your May flowers could turn up inside your house in the form of finished projects and a welcomed feeling of accomplishment!

TIP -  The Benefits of a Price Book
By Connie Jennings, Marketing Director

My total savings for April 2004 - March 2005 using my Couponizer was $1,514.13!!

Want to make the most of your savings efforts?   If you keep ahead of the game, you?ll never have to pay too much for an item again.  I?m beginning to keep up with my spending by keeping a price book.  None of us can remember all those prices for the items we buy week after week, we need a little help!   To make a price book you only need a small notepad (one that will fit into your Couponizer bag, of course), and a
pencil (Be sure to use a pencil, you can change the prices as the stores offer specials).  List those items you buy on a regular basis and keep up with this for a couple of months.  Over time you will see some definite trends.   My price book looks something like this:

Ingles

Kroger

Publix

Wal-Mart

Target

Dixie Crystals Sugar - 5 lb.

$1.89

Before making my shopping list, I look at my price book and my coupons so I will know exactly which store to shop to save the most money.  If you get a great sale price and double coupons sometimes it?s FREE!

After a few months of keeping a price book, you will begin to recognize those stores that raise and lower prices hoping to catch the unwary.  You?ll become skilled at seeing through the hype that surrounds many so-called sales.  Good luck and Happy Saving!

TOOL -  The Dinner Doctor by Anne Byrn

Cookbooks have long been used as tools to inspire and guide the family cook to create all sorts of culinary concoctions.  In fact, I received a cookbook as a present from my Mom when I moved into a house with 2 roommates after finishing college.  She gave me this tool (that I still use to this day) to enable me to be successful in my own meal planning and preparation.  So, why feature The Dinner Doctor cookbook this month you might ask?  Because most of the recipes featured are made from ingredients that coupons are readily available for and most of the finished dishes are fast and great tasting.

In 2004, my family saved $568 with The Couponizer, that's almost $50 a month!  Taking just a few minutes here and there throughout the year to simply to clip coupons, scan frequent shopper cards, and mail in rebates really made a noticeable difference in our budget. The Couponizer truly helped us stay focused on saving money all year long.  The final tally on our coupon savings last year was more than ever before!
