2012 is gearing up to be a busy year. We have welcomed over 24 new dogs into OBG and happily seen 20 dogs already go to their forever homes. Our fundraising season has already kicked off with a Valentine's Day card sale, which can be ordered online or
by mail. We also have a number of fun events coming in March, so mark your calendar for Quartermania on 3/10 and the Bowl-a-thon on 3/25!

Update on Oliver Twist: If you haven't heard, Oliver Twist was turned in to a local shelter by a homeless man and arrived to OBG with demodectic mange and a host of other ear and eye infections. He then suffered a near fatal allergic reaction to a medication causing us all to hold our breaths until he recovered. He is doing so much better but he still needs a lot of medical care and TLC. January Adoptions:
20 Dogs including Freida!
 Freida was literally the first OBG pup to be adopted in 2012, going home on New Year's Eve!! We couldn't be happier to start the year off with such great news. At 14 years of age, Freida is one of our fabulous seniors who was so deserving of a loving family. There are many wonderful things about sharing your life with a senior dog. Hi folks, I'm Rex! I am in the spotlight this month for many reasons. For starters, I'm a 10 year young handsome devil with a coat of tight curls to be envious of. Once you get past my good looks, there's even more good stuff! I'm quite personable so I make friends with ease. Because I'm so sweet and have most humans wrapped around my paw, you'll often see me roll over on my back in a flash, just to be sure I get in on a belly rub. I don't want to miss out on a chance for some lovin' so a fella's got to speak up!
In addition to wowing two-legged friends, I also enjoy the company of cats and dogs. Even kids are fine by me! I also get an A+ for my fabulous house manners. Like many folks who made New Year's Resolutions, I'm trying to drop a few pounds. I think you'd be proud strolling down the street with me on your arm as we burn calories on walks, and we can even make trips to the dog park. What's not to love? You know the saying, a picture is worth a 1,000 words...don't you agree? It's clear precious 6 year
old Tobey has wiggled his way into the hearts of his forever family
and boy are they smitten! Tobey was adopted from us two years ago and his family couldn't be a better match.
Tobey takes delight in loving and protecting his family. He's patient with the little humans in the home and welcomes their kisses even when he's snoozing. We're happy to hear Tobey is thriving and most importantly, has found his doting forever family!

VA Legislative News: Please contact your representative and send your support for HB650. This bill would require each animal shelter to maintain a list of rescues willing to accept animals and requires the shelter contact them all with 24 hour notice before euthanizing healthy animals. It would also disallow euthanasia even after the hold expires if there are empty cages. This bill has the power to save thousands of lives in VA and needs your support.

Quartermania: Quarters for Cockers
 Don't Miss the Fun -- Quarters for Cockers is back on March 10th at the Laurel Moose Lodge in Laurel, MD. Doors open at 6pm and the event starts at 7pm. Food and drink available.

Kathi Alexander
Kathi Alexander is a volunteer extraordinaire. As many of you know, she is currently Oliver Twist's foster Mom, but she has has been volunteering with OBG since 1998. She has fostered hundreds of dogs, and has served as an OBG Board Member, Secretary and newsletter editor.

Kathi is a huge advocate for OBG's senior and special needs dogs. Oliver Twist is just the latest OBG cocker to be nursed back to health by Kathi.
Do you remember Calla? Calla came to OBG heartworm positive and then was diagnosed with cancerous abdominal masses and had to have multiple surgeries. Thanks to Kathi, Calla is healthy and ready for a new home.
Please help us give Kathi a round of "a-paws"! We're so thankful for all of the contributions she makes to OBG and more importantly, all the love and care she gives to the doggies. Thanks Kathi!!
