The Vision of St. Patrick's

Saint Patrick's Episcopal Church is a community of care, called to be Christ-centered and multicultural in worship, Christian education and action to proclaim Christ's love to the world.

The Baptismal Font

About St. Patrick's Church

Saint Patrick's was founded in 1953 as a mission church from the Falls Church.  The congregation met for the first time on January 3, 1954 in the cafeteria of the Graham Road School.  The building was completed in 1956.  Members of St. Pat's have been known for their involvement in outreach ministries since the very early days of the parish.  In 1995, Saint Patrick's became an Anglo-Vietnamese church, a mission of the Diocese of Virginia, and has become more and more multicultural.  In January of 2012, Saint Patrick's full parish status was restored and recognized at the 217th Annual Council meeting of the Diocese.   Some of us say that St. Pat's is like a window through which we can see God's love.  Other parishioners suggest St. Pat's is a "safe haven" for all who seek peace, a quiet place for those who want to find rest.  Many in the congregation mention caring is what makes St. Patrick's special to them.  Our vision statement reflects what we are in our hearts:  St. Patrick's Episcopal Church is a community of care called to be Christ-centered and multicultural in worship, Christian education and action to proclaim Christ's love to the world."

From Our Music Director

  Mariko
I hope you are having a great summer.

As September is coming near, I want to let you know that our choirs are starting to practice.

We need more ringers in our bell choir.  No      experience necessary.  I'm happy to teach you the basics aside from the group practice.

The bell choir practices on Sunday mornings from 9:15 to 10:00 a.m.  We will start on September 9th.

If you are interested in singing in adult and youth choir, please let me know.  I'll come up with practice time when convenient for most of you.

Children's choir will start when Sunday school starts.  They will practice during the Sunday school.
I'm looking forward to making beautiful music with you.
Have a great rest of the summer!

School Supplies for Our Westlawn Children

westlawn school    With school right around the corner, it is time to think about the school supplies that our Westlawn children will be needing.  There is a list on the table in the narthex with the needed supplies.  Please help these children get off to a good year with the needed supplies to help them succeed.  If you choose, you may donate cash or a check and we will do the shopping for you.  Just put your check or money in an envelope and place it in the collection bowls with Westlawn noted on the envelope and/or on the memo line.  Thanks for your thoughtfulness and generosity.   -  Winnie Lebo

Letter from Our Cate Johnson, Pakistan

 August 12, 2012

Cate and friends Dear Friends,
A quick note from Islamabad, which is now only in the high 90s and 100 degrees instead of 115+.  The monsoons are upon us and rain has cooled our dry neighborhoods -- we have definite signs of drought, although not yet as severe as what I hear is taking place in the US. We all need to pray for rain, yes?
We're in the Holy Month of Ramadan, and next weekend will celebrate Eid (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eid_ul-Fitr).  It's a special time for everyone, and most people undertake the stringent 16-hour fast, which includes no drink as well.  Especially difficult during such hot weather-I'm full of admiration.  Yet the fast is also somewhat mandatory.  Most restaurants are not even allowed to open during the daylight hours.  No one is allowed to eat or drink publically if they are not fasting.      We do our best to remain sensitive and respectful to these requirements.
Ramadan also brings a wonderful opportunity  for giving alms.  Pakistanis are renowned for their generosity, which is clearly evident in our neighborhoods.  One sees lines of people with little means queing for meals, and several "care" boxes with meals are distributed in markets by ordinary folk.  It's lovely to see this outpouring of kindness.
One man is particularly revered throughout the country.  Abdul Sattar Edhi is an ordinary citizen who began charitable works several decades ago (http://www.edhifoundation.com).  He travels throughout Pakistan and collects alms from whoever wishes to donate, then give to those in the most need.        His example inspires us all to do more, give more, help more.  Simple things are so meaningful, yes?
My two years in Pakistan draws to a close.  I shall miss my friends here, my colleagues, the colors of my world.  It has been a wonderful and blessed time.  Thank you, thank you for your ongoing prayers and support.  They mean a great deal to me.
      Blessings!
      Cate
