- We thank God that all of us were safe when Irene hit our area in the early hours of Sunday, August 28th. Some forty of us gathered for the 10:30 AM service, and we were blessed with the beautiful music that eleven-year-old flutist Emma Resmini offered during worship. The theme of Tinh's sermon for the day was taken from God's words to Moses, in the Book of Exodus, "I will be with you." We pray for all who suffered tremendous losses in the tempest. - Congratulations to Laura Kennedy, who celebrates her 90th birthday this Sunday, September 4th. - Seminarian Toua Vang will begin field education at Saint Patrick's in September. This year, Toua will preach at Saint Patrick's once a month and meet with Tinh+ once every week. For the next two academic years, while being at St. Pat's, Toua is required to work with a "lay committee," which meets with Toua once per month, to share experience and concerns. Toua will act as pastor and leader of the group, and the group offers its feedback and support. Tinh+ is hoping to get seven people to join the group. So far he has 4 people for the lay committee. Would you like to be a member of the group? Please speak with Tinh+. - Sunday school will resume on Sunday, September 11, at 10:30 AM. Maggie Spinelli is the coordinator of our Sunday School program, and parents and volunteers will be contacted soon. Many thanks to all of you who were so generous in supporting our Sunday School. Christian formation is a ministry of the parents. We hope to help our children learn to trust and grow in faith, by our words and action. We look forward to a successful Sunday School program this year, but we need a lot of help! - It is time to gather school supplies for the Westlawn children. The church welcomes your generous donations, and there will be a box in the narthex to collect them. Some of the things the children need are: large and small Elmer's Glue sticks, 8 oz. bottles of Elmer's Glue, 4 oz. bottles of Elmer's Glue, 8 - 10 count Crayola Classic Markers, 24-count Crayola Crayons, yellow highlighters, 12-count colored pencils, large Expo Whiteboard markers, #2 pencils, Pink Pearl erasers, eraser caps, Fiskar scissors, packs of wide rule loose-leaf paper, packs of college rule loose-leaf paper, spiral notebooks, composition notebooks, 3x5 index cards, sticky notes, pocket folders with brads, pocket folders without brads, 1-inch and 2-inch 3-ring binders, hand sanitizer, tissues and disinfectant wipes. St. Patrick's and Westlawn Elementary School are partners in helping the poor. - All are invited to join us in the 9/11 Remembrance Service, which will be held at Saint Patrick's on Sunday, September 11, 2011, at 5:00 PM.

A Prayer For Young Persons

God our Father, you see your children growing up in an
unsteady and confusing world: Show them that your ways
give more life than the ways of the world, and that following
you is better than chasing after selfish goals. Help them to
take failure, not as a measure of their worth, but as a chance
for a new start. Give them strength to hold their faith in you,
and to keep alive their joy in your creation; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.

- Chúng ta tạ ơn Chúa về sự an toàn của tín hữu và nhà thờ trong trận bão vừa qua. Dù gió mạnh, các cây trong rừng sau nhà Mục Sư không bị đổ trong đêm thứ bảy. Vào sáng Chúa Nhật, 28 tháng 8, có khoảng 40 người dự lễ thờ phượng. Chúng ta cầu nguyện cho các nạn nhân khắp nơi không may bị thiệt hại quá nhiều.
- Ông Toua Vang, chủng sinh người Hmong sẽ chính thức bắt đầu chương trình tập sự tại Nhà Thờ Thánh Patrick vào tháng 9 năm nay. Trong thời gian thực tập, ông Toua sẽ giảng mỗi tháng một lần và họp với ủy ban chủng sinh. Ủy ban nầy do Mục Sư Tỉnh phối hợp, gồm các quý anh chị em trong Hội Thánh. Mục Sư Tỉnh đã có được 4 tín hữu tham dự vào ủy ban, hiện cần có thêm 3 hoặc 4 người nữa. Mục Sư hoan nghênh bất cứ ai muốn tham dự. Xin cho Mục Sư Tỉnh biết nếu quý vị muốn biết thêm về mục vụ của ủy ban nầy.
- Trường Chúa Nhật tại Nhà Thờ Thánh Patrick sẽ bắt đầu vào ngày Chúa Nhật, 11 tháng 9. Bà Maggie Spinelli sẽ tiếp tục là phối hợp viên, và Bà sẽ liên lạc với quý vị phụ huynh và những người tình nguyện giúp các em học Lời Chúa.
- Hàng năm, vào đầu tháng 9, Nhà Thờ chúng ta quyên tặng giấy bút và các học cụ cho các em nhà nghèo thuộc Trường Tiểu Học Westlawn. Chúng ta sẽ để một cái hộp ở phòng narthex, và xin quý vị mang đến nhà thờ những thứ như sau: keo dán Elmer's, viết chì màu, tập vở và giấy, vv (xin xem phần Anh Ngữ -- chi tiết ở đó rõ ràng hơn). Việc trợ giúp nầy nhắc chúng ta hai điều: thứ nhất, trẻ em ở Hoa Kỳ may mắn hơn trẻ em ở nhiều nước khác -- điều nầy khiến chúng ta liên tưởng đến sự chênh lệch ở Việt Nam, giữa thiểu số trẻ em giàu (quá phí phạm) và đa số trẻ em nghèo (quá thiếu thốn về mọi mặt). Thứ hai, ngay tại Hoa Kỳ có rất nhiều trẻ em nghèo đói.
- Vào ngày Chúa Nhật, 9 tháng 11, 2011, sẽ có một buổi lễ tưởng niệm các nạn nhân của vụ khủng bố cách đây 10 năm, tại Nhà Thờ Thánh Patrick, lúc 5 giờ chiều. Kính mời quý vị tham dự.
