Summit Home Gets High Praise
The Santa Clara County Juvenile Justice Commission (JCC) conducted a visit to the Summit group home in Morgan Hill to perform a routine inspection. At the April 21 visit there were six girls living in the home.
COO Stacy Hall, reports, "They had called me to see if Advent would be open to having them visit and do an inspection. I invited them to come."
"The inspection was originally to have taken place at the Laurel home, but we had to change the location, so the visit was rescheduled to Summit, where the house staff only had about two hours notice," Stacy says.

Client Corner
As a young child I was born in Oregon. Then when I was three I came to the Bay Area to live with my grandfather, his wife and their two children. We did not t into the family and it was a very abusive situation.
My brother and I had to do chores every day before school. Then we would walk to school and I'd be crying because we'd see our step-grandmother driving her two kids to school. Their kids kept to themselves and never made my brother and me feel welcome.
My dad called the house once and wanted to visit us. My grandfather and his wife said they couldn't come. Then another situation happened where my brother was physically abused and ended up with a dislocated jaw.
After that event, I did not want to be home and I was on the run and living...read more |

Advent Schools on the Rise
In May, Advent received a three-year grant from the Santa Clara County Department of Alcohol and Drug Services (DADS) to provide drug and alcohol counseling at three schools-Odyssey, Pathnders and Fremont School District. This service was in addition to and came alongside our minor-consent Medi-Cal funding, and included services like individual counseling for our current sites, as well as the three additional schools.
Subsequently, CEO Mark Miller and COO Stacy Hall approached the County Ofce of Education (COE) that provides the school programs for our group homes. The purpose was twofold: 1) inform them that we would be offering drug and alcohol counseling for two of their sites; and 2) ask if they would like to expand services to the rest of their sites, along with mental health counseling.
This resulted in a one-year grant to implement mental health counseling at four sites, as well as supplementing drug and alcohol counseling at three sites...read more

Mark Miller, CEO, approached several key donors and asked if they would be willing to up the ante on the initial amount, and three responded positively, with each adding $5,000 to the pot.
On April 18, an e-newsletter was then sent to Advent donors, as well as posting the information on our website and Facebook, and the challenge was on!
That very day the magic got really exciting when a $10,000 donation...read more |

Welcome Aboard Reagan Glover
I was raised in Chicago, but my husband, David, and I have been living in Santa Cruz County for eight years. We initially moved to California to help start a church, during which time I worked at Starbucks and worked as a nanny.
An opportunity became available at Bethany University to be a resident director, and since I had served in that capacity for two years at North Park University in Chicago, it was a great t. For the next seven years I served as a resident director at Bethany University.
While working on my Master of Science degree, God revealed to me...read more |
