hamiltoncommunityfoundationlogoYesterday, the Hamilton Community Foundation released its Vital Signs report that marks progress, but moving ahead requires policy and planning choices.  Life in Hamilton's neighbourhoods is improving because of community focus and the work of the people who live there. But reducing the impact of economic disparity will require more action at the policy level says a new report from Hamilton Community Foundation.  Hamilton's Vital Signs, a progress report issued yesterday, illustrates the success of neighbourhood plans that have been developed by local residents over the last year.  These achievements, presented to City Council last week, include better connecting neighbours as well as engaging local institutions for better access to services like health care.  But, says the report, there needs to be a continuing focus on issues like affordable housing, mixed income schools and investing in community-based services.   To read the full media release and the Vital Signs report, visit the Hamilton Community Foundation website

The Hamilton Children's Choir has an extraordinary opportunity to share with you and they need your help!  The award-winning Hamilton Children's Choir (HCC) has accepted an exclusive invitation to be the only 'Guest' children's choir at the 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships in Guangzhou, China.

The 1st Xinghai Prize International Choir Championships, organized by INTERKULTUR, will unite choirs through festival, competition, symposium, concert tour and choral academy elements.  From 8th to 14th November 2012 approximately 100 choirs will perform and compete in outstanding concert venues like the Guangzhou Opera House, the Xinghai Conservatory of Music and the Xinghai Concert Hall.  The Hamilton Children's Choir will share their gift of music on this international stage representing the greater City of Hamilton and Canada.   As the only 'Guest' children's choir' invited for this event, the HCC will be highlighted throughout their stay by performing at the opening ceremony, highlight concerts, the formal competition, the official closing ceremony and will lead workshops in Guangzhou and Shenzhen to teach other international choral conductors on technique, sound, and innovation.

As the  'Guest' children's choir for this event, the HCC has been offered financial support to cover some of their costs while in China however the overall travel expenses are still significant.  The cost per chorister even with the subsidy presented will be $2,500 per chorister.  The choir is seeking support from our local business community. Should you be interested in supporting the HCC, please contact Patricia LeClair, Executive Director, Hamilton Children's Choir at 905-527-1618.
