Chamber Members making news

Horizon Utilities:  Horizon Utilities Corporation is pleased to be jointly releasing its fourth Sustainability-Based Annual Report and fourth Global Reporting Initiative™ (GRI) sustainable development filing.  Both focus on its triple bottom-line reporting of social, environmental and economic considerations.  The report is available on the Horizon website at www.horizonutilities.comThis year's annual report highlights "sustainability in action", detailing the company's many 2011 successes and initiatives. The Canadian Electricity Association recognized the company's triple bottom-line industry leadership by naming it Sustainability Company of the Year for the second year in a row. Horizon Utilities has made progressive improvements in its GRI filings, the de facto international standard for sustainable development, since beginning in 2008.  In both 2010 and 2011, Horizon achieved a GRI "A+", with the "+" recognition for the external assurance provided by Ernst & Young.

Staybridge Suites Hotel:  New Hamilton Chamber member   Staybridge Suites Hotel is opening this week, adding a beautifully appointed long-term stay hotel property to the downtown and to Hamilton's accommodation industry.  The Chamber would like to thank and congratulate Vrancor Developments for investing in Hamilton.  Staybridge Suites will be hosting the Hamilton Chamber's August Business after Business on Thursday August 23, from 5:30-7:30pm.

City of Hamilton: City Council adopts Culture Plan:  On June 27, 2012 Council unanimously approved the first ever Cultural Policy.  The policy is an outcome of Phase 2 of the Cultural Planning project.  As City staff indicated, a critical component to Hamilton's new policy is: the City of Hamilton formally acknowledges that Culture is the fourth pillar of sustainability (joining the social, economic and the environment pillars).  The policy is based on input from more than 2,100 citizens including Cultural Leaders and a Citizen's Reference Panel.  The policy is a high level document which sets the City's vision for culture and sets the foundation for the more detailed Cultural Plan, which will be presented to Council in 2013.
