Oscar Night Comes to Hamilton
On May 12, 2012 the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre Foundation will be hosting its annual Hummingbird Ball at Carmen's Banquet & Convention Centre. The evening, which raises funds for a selected patient care program, also serves as a chance to celebrate the significant contributions of individuals and organizations whose efforts have made a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
Being recognized at this year's event are:
Morris MercantiA long-time supporter of The Foundation, Mr. Mercanti chaired and co-chaired the Hummingbird Ball for five years and served terms on both the Cancer Centre Foundation's Board of Directors and its Fundraising Council. Morris Mercanti, the current President of The Oakville Banquet and Conference Centre and co-founder of Carmen's Banquet & Convention Centre, is being honoured for his dedication and volunteer commitment.
Rotary Club of Ancaster AMFor nearly a decade the Rotary Club of Ancaster AM has been a key partner of Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre, providing extensive support for a broad range of patient care initiatives. In 2011, the Club expanded their efforts by directing the proceeds from A Cosmopolitan Affair, their annual fashion show fundraiser, to the campaign to build and equip the CIBC Breast Assessment Centre.
BRIGHT Run CommitteeIn 2008 the Breast Disease Site Team at Juravinski founded the BRIGHT Run with a mission to raise funds and awareness to support breast cancer research conducted right here in our own community. Thanks to the tireless efforts of its organizing committee, the event has been a huge success, attracting more than 1,000 participants annually and raising over $1.3-million in just four years.
This year's Hummingbird Ball is being held in support of the Hospital's Hematology Patient Care and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. Proceeds from the event will help cover the costs to purchase specialty equipment for the Unit's six transplant rooms.
