Hamilton Chamber - Policy Updates:   

 

The four policy priorities for the Hamilton Chamber this year are:

  • Mass Transit
    • All day, two-way GO Train Service to Toronto
    • Development of LRT in Hamilton
  • Fair Taxation
  • Strong voice at Queen's Park
  • Creation of an arms-length land development corporation

Updates from Chamber Divisions and Committees
 

Business Development:
 

At the January 11 meeting, guest speaker Lucy Casacia from Siemens Canada spoke about their Green Cities initiative and the Green City Index. Also, the committee discussed a policy resolution related to Refreshment Trucks in Hamilton and a Chamber response to the City's Open for Business Review process.


Innovation and Technology:  
 

At the January 12 meeting guest speaker Kevin Browne of Software Hamilton outlined the work that Software Hamilton has been doing as part of the IT network in Hamilton, including coordinating DemoCamps in Hamilton. The next DemoCamp is scheduled for February 9 and will be held at Mohawk College.


Ancaster Division:
 

At the January 13 meeting, guest speakers Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Ted McMeekin and Paul Ferguson of the Ancaster BIA spoke about government priorities and updates from the BIA respectively.

 

Upcoming meetings:

 

Glanbrook Division:
 

Meets tomorrow, January 19, 8am at the Glanbrook Municipal Service Centre and features guest speaker Tony Sergi, Senior Director of Development, City of Hamilton who will speak about the infrastructure planning around the Red Hill Business Park.


Dundas Division:
Meets tomorrow, January 19, Noon at Winchester Arms in Dundas and features guest speaker Dr. Jerry Morris who will speak about healthy workplaces.
 

Human Resources:
 

The committee extends an invitation to all Chamber members to attend the February 1 meeting featuring guest speaker Theresa O'Halloran-Manager. Leadership Development & Planning, ArcelorMittal Dofasco Human Resources who will be presenting on Performance Management. The meeting will be held at the Waterfront Centre. The session will address a step-by-step plan for implementing world-class performance management. This will include the importance of a performance management system, and the steps needed to develop a solid program (from building the foundation through to building accountability into the system).

Yesterday, January 17, Richard Koroscil, President and CEO of Hamilton International Airport announced that he has decided to retire.  Richard will continue working for the Airport's parent company in an advisory capacity and will continue to be active in the Hamilton community including his involvement with the Hamilton Chamber.  Richard is the Past Chair of the Chamber Board and we wish him all the best in his endeavours.
