Greetings!

The National Organic Program published a memo in response to the recommendations made at the April 2011 business meeting of the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB). The NOSB made the following recommendations:
  1. Renewing, removing, or amending the final 28 material listings on the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances scheduled to expire during 2012
  2. Amending the existing listing for tetracycline
  3. Adding attapulgite, used to clarify plant and animal oils, to � 205.605(a)
  4. Amending the definition of chemical change
  5. Amending the NOSB Policy and Procedures Manual

About the National Organic Standards Board
 
The 15-member National Organic Standards Board is made up of organic farmers and growers, handlers and processors, retailers, environmentalists and conservationists, consumer and public interest advocates, a scientist, and a USDA-accredited certifying agent. The NOSB advises the Secretary of Agriculture on allowed and prohibited substances in organic production and handling and other issues related to the implementation of the Organic Foods Production Act.
