The incumbent serves as an Agricultural Marketing Specialist for the Standards Division, National Organic Program (NOP), Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). The NOP Standards Division engages in rulemaking to amend the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances, amends existing regulations, and promulgates new standards. The division provides policy clarification with respect to the interpretation of the regulations and is responsible for the NOP Program Manual that includes NOP Policies and Procedures and provides clarification to organic producers, handlers, and accredited certifying agents regarding the National Organic Standards. 

 

About the National Organic Standards Board
 
The 15-member National Organic Standards Board is made up of organic farmers and growers, handlers and processors, retailers, environmentalists and conservationists, consumer and public interest advocates, a scientist, and a USDA-accreditated certifying agent. The NOSB advises the Secretary of Agriculture on allowed and prohibited substances in organic production and handling and other issues related to the implementation of the Organic Foods Production Act.
