A national food service provider experienced catastrophic damage to one of their premier restaurants as a result of the extensive flooding. The national chain didn't hesitant to retain the professional staff at Pure Air Control Services to assess, manage and provide environmental oversight for the restaurants clean up process.

New Orleans, LA - Hurricane Isaac may not have the same impact that Hurricane Katrina had seven years ago, though it is heading on the same path that will likely make landfall in New Orleans, Louisiana this Thursday as a category 2 hurricane. Wind damage will be significant, but the real threat is flooding, water damage and subsequent microbial contamination.

Hurricane Isaac Could Stir Up Allergies, Asthma Experts say levels of pollen and mold typically rise after these types of storms

by health.usnews

(HealthDay News) -- Dangerous winds and flooding aren't the only hazards posed by Hurricane Isaac as it pounds Louisiana and Mississippi.

The dramatic climate changes triggered by the storm may also cause mild to life-threatening allergy and asthma symptoms, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI).

Experts say the hurricane's heavy rains will wash away ragweed pollen currently in bloom, but once the rain clears, pollen counts can skyrocket. Cold and warm fronts, as well as winds created by the storm, can also boost levels of both pollen and mold, two major allergy triggers.

3rd Death Tied to Chicago Legionnaires' Outbreak

by Mitch Smith, Tribune Reporter | chicagotribune.com

A third visitor to a downtown hotel earlier this summer has died after contracting Legionnaires' disease, city officials announced Friday.

Media in Ireland are reporting that the man was a retired plumber who was in Chicago to celebrate his 40th wedding anniversary when he apparently contracted the disease.

Newly released test results indicate the primary source of the Legionnaires' outbreak at the JW Marriott at 151 W. Adams St. was a decorative fountain in the hotel's main lobby.

Nine Dead From Legionnaires' Disease Outbreak in Quebec City  Health officials are calling the Legionnaires' outbreak the worst outbreak Canada has seen in recent years.

by by Aaron Derfel, GAZETTE Health Reporter | montrealgazette.com

QUEBEC - The death toll from the outbreak of legionnaires' disease increased by one to a total of nine in Quebec City on Wednesday, as public-health authorities sought additional help in their inspection of buildings that are suspected of harbouring the deadly Legionnella bacteria.

Authorities also reported that the number of people infected with the non-contagious bacterial illness surged to 141 from 126 on Tuesday in what is one of the biggest outbreaks of legionnaires' disease in Canada in at least 25 years.

The outbreak is now in its sixth week, with no signs of having peaked.

Dr. François Desbiens, director of public health in the provincial capital, said that the team of municipal and public-health inspectors will now receive help from the Régie du bâtiment, in charge of the province's buildings.
