Sources of formaldehyde in the home include building materials, pressed wood products (hardwood plywood wall paneling, particleboard, or fiberboard) and furniture made with these pressed wood products. Urea-formaldehyde foam insulation (UFFI), combustion sources and environmental tobacco smoke. Durable press drapes, other textiles, and glues.
Washington - Formaldehyde:
Formaldehyde (HCHO) is considered a strong irritant and potent sensitizer. Inhalation of large amount of HCHO can cause severe irritation of the upper respiratory tract and death. Data from human exposures indicate that exposure to large concentrations of HCHO gas may lead to pulmonary edema. Even HCHO gas present in the workroom at concentrations of 1 to 11 ppm can cause eye, nose, and throat irritation. Formaldehyde has the potential to cause cancer in humans.

A MAN who contracted legionnaires' disease has made a legal bid for answers about how Scotland's deadly outbreak started.
Terry Holeran, 55, is one of 41 people confirmed to have fallen victim to the disease in Edinburgh since May 31.
All those infected have connections to the south-west of the city, where the outbreak is believed to have emanated from a cooling tower.
The exact source has not been identified and investigations continue.
One man has died in the outbreak, 56-year-old Robert Air, from the Seafield area of the Capital.
Mr Holeran, from Saughton Mains, Edinburgh, said he became ill on June 5 with aches and pains, tiredness and breathlessness.

Suspected Mold Closes Portion of Health Clinic Exposure to damp and moldy environments... |

A portion of the Redbird Smith Health Center in Sallisaw is now closed because of suspected mold the Cherokee Nation reported Tuesday.
The facility located at 301 N. 4610 Road will undergo an environmental assessment to determine the extent of the issue. It is unclear how long the portion of the center will be closed.

Feeling a little extra sneezy, itchy and watery this week? You're probably not alone.
An air quality alert was issued Tuesday for dangerous levels of mold as the Midwest mold count reached well over the threshold.
"Yesterday the mold count was 125,000 -- almost triple the threshold alert, and while today the count is lower, it is still dangerously high," Dr. Joseph Leija, an allergist who performs the Midwest's Gottlieb Allergy Count, said Tuesday in a statement.
