FREEHOLD - Nausea, chest pains, breathing difficulties, skin rashes - those were just a few of the complaints of the 65 people who suddenly fell ill at Monmouth County Courthouse today.
It was the second time in two business days the courthouse had to be evacuated because of a mysterious problem and, as a result, the building will be closed Tuesday, county spokesperson William Heine said

Bacterial contamination in water-damaged buildings has been identified as a potential cause of health problems, including infection and respiratory conditions like asthma. Which specific bacteria contribute to these problems, however, has been unknown -- making it difficult for public health officials to develop tools to effectively address the underlying source of the problem.

A Department of Justice report slammed Miami-Dade County jails for their disgusting conditions back in August of 2011, and now ten months later it doesn't appear anyone has bothered to clean up the place. A corrections officer at the Dade County jail in West Miami-Dade leaked photos of the still deplorable conditions of the jail to WSVN. Mold, leaky pipes, over-flowing urinals, and roaches mar the premises.
"It's very dangerous because we have families that we come home to, and anything that's airborne, we'll of course bring it home, and we have kids and families," the anonymous corrections officer told the station.

Settlement for $80 million More for Drywall Victims |

Lawyers representing thousands of victims of Chinese drywall have reached an $80 million settlement with insurance companies representing many of the builders and installers of the material.
That money will feed into a settlement announced in December that involves Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co., a German maker of defective Chinese drywall that could, by some reckonings, make $1 billion in repairs. The settlement called for Knauf to create an uncapped fund to repair 4,500 properties, mainly in Florida.
The latest settlement includes more than 600 defendants, including 80 insurers. The agreement covers as many as 8,000 homeowners, more of them Florida residents than any other state.
