Indoor Exposure to Endotoxins ...A Health Hazard

Home / News (TransWorldNews)

The main source of endotoxin contamination in indoor environments is the result of infestation of Gram-negative bacteria. The sources of Gram-negative bacteria in a closed environment may include water intrusion, condensation in air conditioning units, cooling towers, humidifiers, organic dust, biofilms in toilets and in bathrooms, and other microbial materials.

Out of various indoor contaminants, bacterial endotoxin may illicit significant health and hygiene effects.

Dorm Air-Quality Woes...worries about the lack of inspections...

by Jessica Furdock  - Contributor | the Houstonian > Viewpoints

Last week the Houstonian revealed that indoor air quality inspections are not being full performed in SHSU buildings, including dorms. This is a preventative action that cannot be ignored or pushed aside as it has been the past few years.

Sam Houston State University's Indoor Air Management Plan states the school "is committed to providing its students', employees, and visitors an indoor environment free of contaminants and airborne disease agents." How can they guarantee clean air if they are not performing these annual inspections that test for possible health risks in the air?

In the previous article by the Houstonian, Mark Shiflet, University Safety Coordinator, said annual inspections are not being done because they are not required to do so by law. They currently only inspect area's if an official complain is brought to their attention.

Mold May be Lurking in Both Union Gap Police, Fire Buildings

By Hayley Guenthner | KIMAtv.com

UNION GAP, Wash. -- KIMA was there as the Union Gap City Council held an emergency meeting about the mold problem that's displaced city hall. Employees have been scattered, and court will move to the District 11 Fire Hall. Our crew learned it'll cost thousands just to find the next step and see how bad it really is.Reporting with Video...

Union Gap City Council unanimously decided Monday night to pull $25,000 from their equipment reserve fund for court modifications to the District 11 Fire Department. The additional cost doesn't stop there.

The council also voted to pull $8,000 from their building reserve stash to investigate another potential disaster at both the police and fire station. "They have the same kind of roofs that we had," said Mayor Jim Lemon.

They apparently have the same issues we have. There have also been complaints. We've had (employees complain) for a few years about symptoms related to mold."
