Poor Indoor Air Quality in Americas Schools Showcased by CNN This Weekend

PA - BetterBuil...ners v4-02This weekend, CNN will spotlight the extreme dire condition of Americas' schools and the health hazards posed by poor indoor air quality (IAQ).


According to CNN an estimated 14 million American children attend public schools that are in urgent need of extensive repair or replacement and have unhealthy environmental conditions, including poor air quality, unsafe drinking water and inadequate safety systems.

New Buildings Face Strict Bacteria Tests

The chief executive hinted yesterday that further guidelines may be introduced to make testing for the Legionella bacteria mandatory in new buildings.


Donald Tsang Yam-kuen was speaking for the first time since bacteria was found in his washroom and those of seven ministers at the new Tamar government headquarters.


Tsang said he is healthy and claimed the government has dealt with the issue positively.

Flood Waters Can Leave Behind Toxin Pollutants

Receding flood waters are typically tainted with sewage and other toxins. Flood water is toxic and may contain a number of harmful microorganisms such as viruses, mycoplasma, bacteria, protozoa, molds and other detrimental remains of biological and a-biological pollutants.
 
This past year more than 100,000 people were served evacuation orders in the northeast flood zone (Virginia to New York). At least 11 deaths were reported in this 2011 tragedy. Continuous rain and remnants of tropical storm Lee of 2011 hurricane season had severely affected rescue and rehabilitation.

Legionnaires May Have Been Contracted in B.C.

EDMONTON - An Alberta man is in a coma...

 

The 45-year-old man is currently being treated at the University of Alberta Hospital. The illness was detected by labs in Edmonton, but still needs to be confirmed by the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg.

 

It's reported the man recently returned from a holiday visit to Valemount, B.C., and Northern Health officials have launched an investigation to determine if that's where he contracted the disease.
