What Constitutes Good Indoor Air Quality (IAQ)?

The question is not what is bad IAQ, but more importantly is what is good IAQ (or what is normal)?

 

Bad indoor air quality is difficult to detect EDLab Dr. Rajiv Sahay BCas you cannot see it. Bad smells alone are not the only indicator of poor air quality. Interior rooms collect not only exhaled carbon dioxide and moisture from people and objects, but also numerous toxic chemicals and biological pathogens.

ST. CROIX - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has linked five past cases of Legionnaire's disease - reported between March 2010 and August 2011 - with stays at Marriott's Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Beach Resort and Marriott's Frenchman's Cove, prompting remediation work to the resorts' water systems.

 

The V.I. Health Department has been "working closely" with a team of CDC specialists to monitor the remediation efforts at the resorts, after an investigation into the five past cases....The illness was found in stateside residents who had been guests at the resorts...

OSHA Urges Salon Owners to Implement Protective Measures

U.S. DOL -  Occupational Safety and Health Administration 

 
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration is continuing its efforts to protect workers from the dangers of formaldehyde exposure.

In November, OSHA issued citations and fines to two salons for failing to implement precautions to protect workers from exposure to formaldehyde when using certain hair-smoothing products. Formaldehyde can irritate the eyes and nose; can cause allergic reactions of the skin, eyes and lungs; and is a cancer hazard.

SW Portland Family Sickened by Toxic Mold, then Evicted

A Southwest Portland family that alleges it was sickened by toxic mold is being evicted from their home.

Tyler Jones and his family moved into a rental home on Southwest Plum Street on July 6, 2011 after signing a one year lease. 

Jones said the day he moved in, a neighbor started telling him about the rat and mold problems in the home, but he found out soon enough on his own. 

His brother-in-law Mark Paluck, who already has health problems, started coughing up blood, and the three other residents became ill, showing signs of lethargy and headaches.
