Port Charlotte, FL -- Charlotte County School District has implemented a "Green Cleaning" program to not only save energy but also to improve indoor air quality and mitigate long-term health risks and allergies associated with indoor air pollutants.

Toxic mold is a dangerous condition that can arise in buildings with untreated water leaks and penetration. The most common form of "toxic mold" is Stachybotrys chartarum (also known by its synonym Stachybotrys atra), a greenish-black mold. It can grow on material with a high cellulose and low nitrogen content, such as fiberboard, gypsum board, paper, dust, and lint.

  

Growth occurs when there is moisture from water damage, excessive humidity, water leaks, condensation, water infiltration, or flooding. Constant moisture is required for its growth...

Ronald McDonald House Closes Temporarily; Mold Found in Rooms

The Ronald McDonald House in Chattanooga is temporarily closing after mold was discovered in several rooms.

 

In a written statement released to Channel 3, the organization said "After a series of rigorous inspections, preliminary tests results indicate that there is evidence of mold in four rooms at our Ronald McDonald House. In the interest of the health and safety of our guest families, we have made the decision to close the House temporarily while we remediate the issue.  Working with the experts in this field, we will re-open the House welcoming families as soon as possible...

JMU Students Refuse to Move into Apartment With Mold, Poor Conditions

PIERRE, Lots of college students are moving in this weekend, but a group of James Madison University students are refusing to move into their apartment because of poor conditions.
 
Story Comment: "But then I come here and I see mold in my room, I see unsafe living conditions for my friends and roommates, and I see a slumlord," said Hollander. The JMU students and their parents say they're shocked at the conditions of the apartment.
