The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program has been around for 10 years, and has become a "brand" among builders, developers and the general public. The international program has been developed and is administered by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED certifications (certified, silver, gold, and platinum) are available for commercial and residential buildings, building retrofits, and the USGBC is developing a LEED certification for neighborhoods. The focus of LEED is to mark buildings (and now neighborhoods) that are sustainable, healthy, and energy efficient. Mold Exposure Increases Kids Risk of Asthma |

CINCINNATI, OH - According to study results published in the August issue of Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, nearly nine million children in the U.S. have asthma, and previous studies have shown that mold exposure contributes to the development of the condition, particularly in children. The study confirms the early findings that kids exposed to higher levels of mold at one year of age were almost three times as likely to develop asthma by the age of seven as kids with lower mold exposures during infancy. Mold exposures at seven years of age were not associated with asthma at that age.

Indoor Mold Poses Greatest Asthma Risk for Babies |

When infants are exposed to mold in the home, their risk for developing asthma more than doubles, according to a study published Tuesday in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. The study doesn't prove mold causes asthma, but it does suggest that exposure to mold during infancy is linked to the development of chronic inflammation of the lung airways, which causes wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing...
