'Abundant' Levels of Mold Spores Found in O'Hare Lab Results Confirm Presence of Mold Spores, Facilities Plans 'Heavy Maintenance' for Break

BRS-2 120x120Separate laboratory reports confirm the presence of several types of mold spores in O'Hare Hall. A combination of direct tape lifts and air quality samples sent by The Ram to two independent labs verified residents' belief that mold is the underlying cause of their allergy-like symptoms.

State DEP Urges Radon Testing in Homes

TRENTON - Radon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless gas - one that might enter your home without your knowledge and which could cause cancer. The Department of Environmental Protection is encouraging all homeowners in New Jersey to check for radon exposure via a simple test.
 

"It's a smart thing to do, which could ensure the safety and health of you and your family," said Commissioner Bob Martin. "Fortunately, the level of radon exposure in homes, schools and other buildings can be determined through an inexpensive test."

House Committee to Vote on Fred Upton's Asthma Aggravation Act of 2011

Late last week, a key US House subcommittee voted in favor of HR 910, the bill that would allow unlimited carbon pollution from power plants and other industrial polluters. The bill - which I like to call the Asthma Aggravation Act of 2011 - would prevent the EPA from making badly-needed updates to clean air safeguards to limit carbon pollution.

 Congressman Fred Upton chooses polluters over children's health

Today, the House Energy and Commerce Committee begins discussion of and voting on the bill. We'll be live blogging and tweeting the markup when it starts at 3pm today.

Harmful Bacteria Found on School Band Instruments

The researchers said they found 442 different bacteria, 58 types of mold and 19 types of yeast living on or in the musical instruments. A lot of the bacteria were species of Staphylococcus, which can cause staph infection, researchers said..
