| The safety and security of our faculty, staff and students is a top priority for RUSVM. Enhanced initiatives and new services are constantly being added. Below is an update of just some of the things RUSVM is doing to improve safety and security:
Home Assessments 12 officers have been trained in conducting home assessments and more than 45 assessments have occurred since the initiative began.

Rental Property Minimum Requirements RUSVM is continuing to update rental property security requirements to strengthen the security and better meet the needs of our community members. Take a look at the latest version.

Health Services & Financial Aid Teams

The Health Center team includes Ruth Varner-Smith and Maureen Dickenson who are registered nurses providing services to the campus 24/7. The Financial Aid Office (now located next to the Aviary) assists students in navigating the financial aid process. Both teams are an integral part of life at RUSVM. |More|

Triple R Ross Staff Association The Ross Staff Association (RSA), in an effort to show membership appreciation, has instituted a monthly Random RSA Raffle aka "Triple R." Each month an RSA member will be chosen, at random, and have a chance to win fabulous prizes.
The best part is that you don't have to do anything except be a RSA member!
The winner for the month of September is Sebastian Henry from the Student Services Department. Henry won a $25 cell phone top-up.

License Plate Renewal Plates ending in "9" If the last digit of your auto license plate ends in a 9, you must renew your car registration by September 30, 2011. Therefore your car must be inspected and insurance coverage must be current prior to going to Inland Revenue. Incident Report System The Incident Report System provides individuals with direct access to current incidents as reported to campus security. The system is available via the Internet (on- and off-campus) with a RUSVM email account and password. Make it a habit to stay up-to-date. View the System

Daniel Boruta, DVM, joins the Clinical Sciences Section as assistant professor of Anesthesiology. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Michigan State University and his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Pennsylvania. He has interests in neuromuscular junction physiology/pharmacology and neuromuscular blockade monitoring. Boruta will be teaching in Semesters 5, 6 and 7.
Verda James joins RUSM's Clinical Skills Laboratory Team as senior program coordinator. She brings experience as a senior administrator at Reeds Data Service.
Bryce Kibbel, DVM, comes to RUSVM as assistant professor of Anatomy in the Structure and Function Department. Kibbel has interests in comparative anatomy, clinical application of anatomy and its relationship to general practice. He completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at Iowa State University. Kibbel will join the Anatomy team teaching in Semesters 1 and 2.
Nicholas Spaccarelli, DVM joins RUSVM as assistant professor of Small Animal Medicine and is a Clinician at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. Spaccarelli is a graduate of Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. He has interest in canine physical therapy and pain management, and will be teaching in Semesters 6 and 7, Introduction to Clinics.

Way to represent RUSVM! Jennifer Daly (now 9th Semester) and Amanda Loftis, DVM, PhD, assistant professor of Infectious Disease, attended the 60th Wildlife Disease Association Annual International Meeting, August 14-19 in Quebec, Canada. Daly presented a poster in the student competition at the meeting titled, Diversity of Bat Species on St. Kitts and Identification Using Molecular Methods. Loftis presented a talk in the bat disease session, Parasites and Pathogens of Bats (Microchiroptera) on St. Kitts, West Indies.
Congratulations to the PINK semester for winning the Olympics! The planning team would like to thank all the semesters for their participation in the September 2011 Olympics. It was extremely successful even with a hurricane looming in the background.
Under the guidance of Amanda Loftis, DVM, PhD, assistant professor of Infectious Disease, as a mentor for the project, Glynis McCorkle (now 10th Semester), a Morris Animal Foundation (MAF) Veterinary Student Scholar, presented her work at the MAF small companion animal scientific review meeting in Denver, Colorado. McCorkle's poster was titled, Ticks and Tick-Associated Pathogens of Dogs in Costa Rica: Detecting Molecular Prevalence of Infection. Great job!
Amanda Loftis, DVM, PhD, assistant professor of Infectious Disease was invited to present her work with tick disease at the Ticks and Tick-Borne Pathogens 7 Conference, August 28-Sept 2 in Zaragoza, Spain. The international meeting is held only once every 3 years. Loftis' presentation was titled Survey of Tick-Borne Pathogens of Domestic Animals in St. Kitts and Nevis, West Indies.
Congratulations to Esteban Soto, DVM, assistant professor of Bacteriology, and Tatiana Bonilla on the birth of their son, Daniel Soto-Bonilla (Danyboy) on September 19. The baby weighed 2.96 kg.
