RUSVM Dean Search Update

Ross University is committed to selecting a truly extraordinary Dean for RUSVM. As you are aware, based on advice from SpencerStuart--the firm responsible for the search--the Dean's search was put temporarily on hold in mid-May, after the announced retirement of Ross University President, Dr. Thomas Shepherd. As the Dean reports to the President the firm believed it essential to focus first on the search for the new President. RUSVM is continuing to expand its security initiatives. Two weeks ago the Safety & Security Department began home inspections of faculty and staff who have made requests for an inspection. Canine Medicine Club's Pie Eating Contest
Joseph Lupo As the lunch hour drew to a close on Thursday, July 14, the stage was set for the Canine Medicine Club's Pie Eating Contest. The contest was held near the food huts, where eleven contestants had to consume a custard-filled piecrust using only their mouths. Each participant wore a plastic bag as clothing protection and the first person who ate all of his or her pie (including the crust) was declared the winner. |More|

RUSVM Celebrates Retired Dean
The DeYoungs On June 22, the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine campus celebrated the retirement of David DeYoung, DVM, dean of RUSVM for the past eight years. In an event filled with singing, relaxation, and of course, food, RUSVM community members had a final chance to bid farewell to Dr. DeYoung and his wife, Bonnie, before they departed St. Kitts. Securing Your Apartment Over Break | Information about securing your residence over break from the Off Campus Housing Office.

Travel with Pets on AA | Information about traveling with pets from St. Kitts to the United States on American Airlines.

Departure Tax Increases | Beginning July 1 the departure tax on all persons leaving St. Kitts will be US $37 or EC $100.

Kendall Cable  Kendall Cable joins the Information Technology Department as Manager of Application Support. He will manage overall support of all IT applications, such as Avimark, Simms, Peachtree, PACS, QuestionMark, and e-Value. Cable's goal is to improve response time, communication, and successful resolution to application issues, as well as, to help the department improve overall services to the campus. Cable reports to Paula Randall, Director of Information Technology. Reporting to Cable are Leroy Carter, Kimbel Jeffers, Kluivert Blackman, Kevin McLeod, Antoine Laws, Leigh Ann Joseph and Paul Orchard. Kendall is returning to St. Kitts with his family after twelve years in the U.S. working as a Systems Architect and Lead Software Developer.   

Priti Karnik joins the Clinical Sciences Section as Priti KarnikAssistant Professor.  She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Ross University; completing her clinical year of studies at Cornell University.  Karnik completed a residency in small animal surgery at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons.  She has interests in pain management and minimally invasive surgery.  Karnik will be teaching surgery  in Semester 6.
 
Aisha YoungAisha Young, DVM, joins RUSVM as the newest Radiology Intern.  Young received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of California-Davis and just completed a small animal internship at Purdue University.  She will be assisting with Animal Nutrition in 1st Semester and Immunology in 2nd Semester.

Triple R
Ross Staff Association

 

The Ross Staff Association, in an effort to show membership appreciation, has instituted a monthly Random RSA Raffle aka "Triple R." Each month an RSA member will be chosen, at random, and have a chance to win fabulous prizes.

The best part is that you don't have to do anything except be a RSA member!

Daniel Caines

The winner for the month of July and the first Triple R recipient is Daniel Caines from the Facilities Department. Daniel won a $25 Lime cell phone top up.

License Plate Renewal

Plates ending in "7"

 

If the last digit of your auto license plate ends in a 7, you must renew your car registration by July 31, 2011.  Therefore your car must be inspected and insurance coverage must be current prior to going to Inland Revenue. 

Incident Report System

 
The Incident Report System provides individuals with direct access to current incidents as reported to campus security.  The system is available via the Internet (on- and off-campus) with a RUSVM email account and password.   Make it a habit to stay up-to-date.

Island Idol Island Idol was held July 15 at Bobsy's Restaurant, hosted by the Pink semester. Both faculty members and students from all semesters showcased their talent with songs from the 90's. Approximately twenty performances vied for the title of Island Idol winner. First place went to 4th Semester students, Gretchen Hageman and Courtney Sands for their performance of "All That She Wants" by Ace of Base. Second place went to faculty member, Dr. Amanda Loftis, who performed a song by Meredith Brooks. Our Third place performance went to another 4th semester student, Monica Devilbiss, who sang "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" by Selena. Other performances included songs from the Spice Girls, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Bloodhound Gang, and Brittany Spears. Judges for the event included: Faculty members, Dr. Jen Carter, Dr. Esteban Soto, and Gym Trainer, Mr. Wayne Clarke. Make sure to pick up your favorite outfit for next semester's 80s themed Island Idol! 
Joseph Amory

 

 

Joey Amory, DVM, Intern, Diagnostic Imaging, completed his internship at RUSVM in June. Amory is headed to the University of Pennsylvania to complete a residency in Radiology. Best wishes to Joey Amory as he moves forward in his academic and professional veterinary journey.

  

 

Darion John King Darion John-King, Technical Research Associate, will return at the end of this semester to University of the Virgin Islands to continue his studies. He has contributed to the Research Department by applying the skills sets he has gained to-date in his studies toward a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. John-King continues to be an asset to RUSVM and the entire research team is proud of his accomplishments as he made the Dean's List in his first term of studies. Best wishes to Darion John-King in his future studies.
