Conversations for Action: Stand Up & Be Counted
|
The evidence is strong that when people feel engaged at work, that feeling of well-being translates to an organization that is safer, more customer focused, more productive and overall, a better place to work. Factors that contribute to employee "engagement" are believing in the organization's mission, being clear about what your job is and having the resources to do it well, strong personal relationships, feeling appreciated, being challenged to grow and learn, and feeling cared about as a human being. |More|

Going Out?
Tips for a Safer Evening
1. Check with others about the entertainment establishment/activity in which you will be attending. In particular, is it going to be a late-night event.
2. Try to pair up with someone else; do not leave such an event by yourself or with some
one you "just" met.
3. DO NOT EVER accept opened drinks/food from someone unless you know it comes from a reputable source. If buying a mixed drink, get it yourself and watch the bartender mix it or again unless it is provided by a reputable source.
4. Always be observant of the "mood/tone" of the activity you are at, there is usually a time when either because of alcohol etc. the mood changes and or because the "original" crowd you started off with has changed and the crowd has become an unfamiliar/uncomfortable one (this is usually around 11:00/11:30 pm). It usually is a good time to leave unless you are traveling with a familiar and trustworthy group and you plan to stick together.

If not treated properly, eye abrasions can cause long-term damage. Please be certain to utilize rewetting drops and wash your hands prior to handling your contact lenses.

*Recently won an award, placed in a residency, or just simply have great news to share? Send us your information at news@rossvet.edu.kn
Congratulations, Long Duong, technology teacher at the RUSVM Preparatory School, who recently received a special commendation from the European Union for his photo submission for the "Vets in Your Daily Life "Photo Competition. The commendation was presented because of the way in which Duong captured perfectly the "farm to fork" approach that is so important to us when it comes to safeguarding the food chain. The Special Commendation was announced on Thursday, May 19 in Brussels during the EU Veterinary Conference. Duong will receive a certificate signed by the Commissioner, John Dalli and his photo was featured in promotional material for the conference.
Congratulations to Isha Webster, assistant director of Campus Living, who understands the importance of customer service and has created a legacy for herself, as she recently received the 2011 Quarter 3 Legacy of Service Award from DeVry, Inc. Webster was nominated for her work with the incoming students at RUSVM, where she has contributed to the enhancement and monitoring of the incoming student Facebook page. The page allows students to network with each other prior to moving to St. Kitts. In addition, she has added to the features associated with the Big Brother, Big Sister program for incoming students and created an ice cream social as a part of the initiative. Webster's willingness to go above an beyond her job responsibilities, played an important part in the preparation and organization of documentation for the recent accreditation visit. She has been with RUSVM since December 2007 and is currently pursuing her Masters in Project Management from Keller Graduate School of Management where she is a member of the business honor society Sigma Beta Delta. It is no surprise that when she was asked about what she likes most about her job, she replied, "I enjoy interacting with the students." Congratulations Isha Webster, Legacy of Service Recipient.
*As an editorial note, in last month's edition of VetViews Mitchell Barnett's semester was incorrectly listed. Barnett was in his sixth semester and received the Simmons Educational Fund Business Aptitude Award. Congratulations again, Mitchell, and sorry for the mistake.
