New Offerings at NPCA!

In addition to Community Acupuncture, we offer the following other services here at NPCA to bring you the best care that we can. We love you!

Private 1-hour sessions with Amy outside of clinic hours: In a private session, I will spend an hour with you. This additional time allows for more in-depth lifestyle counseling, both a front and a back treatment in the same session, and more extensive use of cups and gua sha.   You can choose private sessions on a regular basis or you can schedule one when you feel like you might need a little extra care. Also, some people have not been comfortable with the community setting, so this type of session provides complete privacy. The cost of a private acupuncture session is $75/hour.

Herbal consults: Licensed herbalist, Kathryn Nemirovsky, comes to NPCA a few days a month to provide herbal consults. Chinese herbs are particularly helpful for chronic illnesses and women's health issues. If you would like to add herbs into your wellness plan, give us a call to set up an appointment with Kathryn. The first session is an hour long and costs $75. Follow-up sessions last a half-hour and cost $40.

Massage:  Massage after your acupuncture treatment is available on Tuesdays from 4:00-7:00.  It's just $10 for a 10 minute focused massage by Amy Mosbacher, LMT.  People are loving this!  It's such a great complement to your acupuncture session. You may need to bring a designated driver to take you home afterwards...

Breast Cancer Options: Breast Cancer Options in Kingston provides funding for 5 free acupuncture sessions for people going through breast cancer treatments or experiencing treatment side effects. NPCA is now on their list of clinics for free sessions. If you or someone you know is going through breast cancer, take advantage of this incredible service to support the treatment process and provide much-needed relief. You can contact us at NPCA or Breast Cancer Options for the paperwork and to set up an appointment.

Annual Heirloom Seedling Sale

seedlings

Four Winds Farm in Gardiner is having their annual Organic Heirloom Seedling Sale - yay! It will be held on Friday, May 18th (1-5) and Saturday, May 19th (9-4). This is a beloved sale where you can stock up on gorgeous, amazing seedlings. They have over 50 varieties of heirloom tomatoes, plus lots of kale, cukes, squashes, hot peppers, herbs, and tons more. And all of them have been nurtured on a local Community Supported Agriculture Farm. How cool is that!

TMI in Woodstock

tmi

TMI (Too Much Information) is a performance project of non-fiction monologues written by women and men from the community who then perform them. Sold-out audiences have raved about, enjoyed, and been inspired by them. TMI is deeply loved in the community. This weekend you can catch it at the Woodstock Playhouse on Friday 5/18 and Saturday 5/19 at 8pm. Get your tix ahead of time by clicking on the link below to make sure you get a seat!

Roller Derby!

horrors

Our local roller girls, the Hudson Valley Horrors, will be duking it out with Roc City Roller Derby on Saturday, May 19th at Hyde Park Roller Magic. As if that's not cool enough, it will be a double-header! The B-team, the ZomBsquad, will be taking on Roc City's B-team. Doors open at 6pm and all the action starts at 7pm. Sit in the suicide seats if you dare! New Paltz Community Acupuncture is a proud sponsor of the Horrors.

Recipe of the Month

 Asian Salad with Japanese Dressing

This has become one of my favorite salads to make. It has a great, refreshing combination of flavors and some veggies not always found in a salad. Add whatever sounds good - if you like some extra crunch, add some radishes, sprouts, or grated beets; add some kale or spinach for added nutrients. As always, I encourage you to buy organic - check out the list of Farmer's Markets below. Bring this tasty salad to a potluck or keep it all to yourself!

Serves 4

Japanese dressing - I personally love the Japanese dressing from the Rosendale Café and they have it bottled for purchase. http://rosendalecafe.com/dressing.php

This is what I use on this salad. If you'd like to make your own dressing, here's a recipe I found online - let me know how it is (it sounds great!):

1/3 cup rice vinegar

2 ½ tablespoons of tamari or soy sauce

¼ cup honey

1 ½ tablespoons grated fresh ginger

1 clove garlic

1-2 tablespoons tasted sesame oil

½ cup olive oil

1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

Mix all of the ingredients together with the exception of the ½ cup of oil.

Stir the ingredients with a whisk and slowly add the oil.

The dressing will separate - just shake it up before using.

Salad

1 bunch asparagus

1 box organic salad greens

handful of cilantro, finely chopped

1-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled and grated

½ a container of grape tomatoes, sliced in half

½ a cucumber, peeled and cubed into bite-sized pieces

handful of sugarsnap peas, cut into bite-sized pieces

1 package baked tofu, cubed (my favorite is from Fresh Tofu Company - you can find it at the High Falls Food Co-op)

1 avocado, cut into bite-sized chunks

1 carrot, peeled and grated

3 scallions, chopped

2 tablespoons sunflower seeds, toasted

Steam asparagus until tender-crunchy. Run them under cool water and pat dry. Then slice into 1-inch pieces and set aside.

Fill your favorite large salad bowl with salad greens.

Top with cilantro and ginger.

Top with tomatoes, cukes, snap peas, asparagus, tofu, and avocado.

Add carrots, scallions, and sunflower seeds.

Add desired amount of dressing.

Deeee-lish!
