New officers were recently elected to the Administrative and Professional Organization (APSO) including President Yvette Snowden, President-elect Crystal Smith, and Secretary W. Allen Richman. Barbara Denman and Thomisha Duru were elected representatives. College-wide Forum (CWF) representatives are John Rosicky, Vera Bagley, Veronica Alford, and Sandra Dempsey. In addition, appointed representatives are Andrea Lex, William Blank, Cathy LaPalombara, Jerome Countee, Jennifer Price, and Brenda Mitchell.
Lane Floyd, new Technical and Support Staff Organization (TSSO) president, was presented with the leadership gavel.

CyberWatch, Prince George's Community College's Advanced Technological Education Center, has been awarded a supplementary grant of $676,690 by The National Science Foundation (NSF). The supplement includes six $50,000 mini-grants to strengthen the cybersecurity curriculum, develop student-focused activities, and augment faculty professional development. Additional funds will support several CyberWatch K-12 initiatives, a remote computer lab pilot project, and travel grants for two faculty members.

Prince George's Community College Envisions Success
Prince George's Community College has embarked on a completion agenda called Envision Success. This initiative is both the institutional priority and completion agenda for Prince George's Community College. The goal of Envision Success is to ensure students complete degrees, certificates, and preparation courses for certifications and licensures. It will address the three major components of time, choice, and structure, while emphasizing quality, rigor, and relevance in an environment of broad engagement.
Committed to completion, Prince George's Community College has developed a plan to encourage and ensure student success. The plan consists of many components including Promise to Act, Achieving the Dream, the Roadmap Initiative, Entering Student Success Institute (ESSI), and dual enrollment. To explain the significance, empower employees to encourage students to complete, and emphasize the value of completion, the college will distribute print collateral and promotional items providing information about Envision Success and the resources available to assist in reaching this goal, as well as updates on the college's progress.

College Launches New Brand Campaign
Prince George's Community College is launching a new brand campaign centered on beginning a future at the college and enabling students to transform their lives through high quality learning opportunities that prepare them for associate degrees, and certificates and enable them to transfer to four-year institutions, enter high-demand careers, and nurture personal growth. Many students who complete their education at the college begin or continue their careers in Prince George's County. The new brand, Transforming Lives, includes an updated logo as well as an advertising campaign. The campaign will be used to not only promote the college in general but also highlight specific academic, workforce development, and continuing education programs.

Purpose, People, Possibilities
Prince George's Community College and the Prince George's Community College Foundation, Inc. recently launched Purpose, People, Possibilities, a major gifts campaign to raise $15 million. Funds will be used for scholarships and services, academic and workforce development programs, and technology, equipment, and furnishings. These resources will enable the college to maximize access to education for a broad range of students, prepare students for the region's in-demand jobs, and support state-of-the-art teaching and learning. Through a commitment to purpose, an investment in people, and the realization of possibilities, Prince George's Community College can continue to collaborate and build partnerships, develop responsive degree and training programs, and remain committed to student success.

PGCC Named Military Friendly School
G.I. Jobs, the premier magazine for military personnel transitioning into civilian life, has awarded Prince George's Community College the designation of Military Friendly School. The 2012 list of Military Friendly Schools honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities, and trade schools embracing America's military service members and veterans who are students. The 2012 list of Military Friendly Schools was compiled through extensive research and a data driven survey of more than 8,000 schools nationwide. Methodology, criteria, and weighting for the list were developed with the assistance of an Academic Advisory Board (AAB) consisting of educators from schools across the country.

Hillman Program Nurtures Entrepreneurial and Leadership Skills
Hillman Entrepreneurs is a four-year scholarship program that allows students to earn an associate degree at Prince George's Community College and continue on to complete a bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland, College Park. The program offers up to a full scholarship to students with entrepreneurial and leadership skills and gives them an opportunity to network with aspiring business and community leaders. In the spring, 11 students graduated from the program at Prince George's Community College, two of whom were admitted to the Robert H. Smith School of Business. Since 2005, 31 Hillman students have graduated from the University of Maryland.

Alumni Named Shipley Regents Scholar
Stephanie Mankey, a single mother and high school dropout, was determined to further her education and enhance her potential. She decided to attend Prince George's Community College and quickly found an environment where she could build her self-esteem and thrive. With her sights set on a future traveling and studying, Mankey focused on the decline and disappearance of the Neanderthals and earned an associate degree in Anthropology. In the spring, she was selected for the prestigious Regents Scholars Program and offered a full scholarship and the opportunity to attend any University System of Maryland institution. Regents Scholars are nominated based on demonstrated academic ability at a Maryland community college as measured by completion of an associate degree with a grade-point average of 4.0. Candidates must exhibit strong motivation, exceptional character, and a record of extracurricular accomplishments. Mankey is currently attending the University of Maryland, College Park.

Upward Bound Students Celebrate Completion
Upward Bound, a TRiO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education designed to prepare high school students for college, held a completion ceremony in Marlboro Gallery honoring a class of 50 students. During the ceremony, Upward Bound alumni were recognized for being accepted to area colleges, and current students received awards for their accomplishments. Kenneth Smith, a media literacy teacher at Blair High School, gave an inspirational talk about perseverance and innovative thinking, highlighting examples of today's technology success stories including former Apple CEO Steve Jobs.

Festival Brings "Down Home Blues" to the Community
The 19th Annual Bluebird Blues Festival, a free annual community event hosted by Prince George's Community College, invited families to experience the down home blues at the Largo campus. This year, One Main Financial joined the college and served as the presenting sponsor. The Holmes Brothers, Cathy Ponton King, Whop Frazier, and Avery Sunshine electrified the main stage, while Phil Wiggins and Nat Reese, Grammy-nominated artist Carolyn Malachi, and The Jewels performed on the Nap Turner stage inside Queen Anne. Attendees visited NBC4's Jim Handly, Jim Vance, and Doreen Gentzler at the NBC4 Tent and participated in children's activities and music workshops. In addition, dozens of food and crafts vendors were on campus for the event.
