Executive Director's Letter
On Holistic History
by Steve Cadwell
I take notice when I stumble on something that's stated just so, as I did with this little gem that appeared on my desk last week:
Increasingly, physicians are aware of the need for a Holistic approach toward patients. At this time there is a need for an organization, which can unify physicians interested in safe, alternative approaches to drugs and surgery, and in addition which will incorporate the use of all traditional medical therapeutic approaches.

| President's Letter | |
Are you coming to San Diego? by Molly Roberts, MD
This was the question that I got in my email yesterday from a friend, referring to ABIHM and AHMA events later this month and in early October. My answer was yes and I realized that I was having what have become familiar emotions every time I think about going to any AHMA event - happiness and excitement. The prospect of meeting up with my friend and catching up on his life got me even more excited about the conference and reminded me of how much I love communing with you and so many other AHMA members.

Rediscovering the Spark that Led Us Into the Healing Profession
|
By Bruce Roberts, MD There are ample opportunities out there to feed your left brain, but it is with the reality of professional burnout in mind that the AHMA has made it a top priority to support the heart and soul of our members, whether you are a physician, a nurse or any other health professional. We are doing this by providing a series of workshops and retreats that are specifically designed to address the concept of "Healing the Healer." Molly and I kicked off the series with a "Finding the Healer Within" retreat in Petaluma, Calif. last fall. I am happy to report that the retreat was a great success and it was truly an honor to touch and be touched by the beautiful souls of the healers who chose to participate. Read more

Heal Thy Practice: Transforming Patient Care
|
By Minn. Chapter President, Bill Manahan, MD
When I retired from patient care, I decided that my next job was to help people find practitioners who practiced in a more holistic manner. So, some of the work that I now do is to consult with integrative practitioners who feel constrained in their present practice and want to move to a practice that allows them to practice medicine exactly how they want to practice it. Heal Thy Practice in Long Beach is packed with speakers who have done just that. Read more

|
By Larry Malerba, DO, DHt
We tend to take the term suppression for granted. Most have a vague sense of what it means as it applies to medicine-but what is it really and what impact does it have upon health? Read more

Holistic
Medicine
And You Need Each Other
|
You know why you joined AHMA. You know why you practice medicine as you do. More and more, people - your patients - are looking for the integrative, holistic approach to managing their health. We realized (again) at last year's retreat, The Healer Within, that you, as well as each member, need one another to remain whole, healthy, and able to help others. AHMA doesn't have chapters in every state, however, we want to help you connect with like-minded professionals whenever and wherever possible. So please, help us help you. If you want to start a chapter in your area, please contact Steve Cadwell; bookmark our calendar and check it often to find helpful events and opportunities to earn CMEs or other applicable education credits. To place events on our calendar that others might benefit from, send an email to Claudia. Thanks for helping us connect you with other members!
