| From the desk of Doug Moore, PhD., Chapter President | |
What an honor to be moving into the role of President for the AHMA NE Ohio chapter! Since the formation of the chapter two years ago, Tamara Macdonald, ND, LAc has led us to a place of distinction such that NE Ohio is now being viewed as a model for the development of other chapters around the country. I'm sure you join me in appreciating Tamara for volunteering so much time and energy for us to have a thriving chapter.
Over the past couple years the NE Ohio chapter has sponsored a number of educational and networking opportunities for its members and the community. We hosted a series of talks entitled the "Holistic Heart", "Holistic Brain", and "Holistic Psychiatry". In addition, we co-sponsored a screening of the documentary, Forks Over Knives, which makes a well-researched and profound case for the health benefits of a plant-based diet. The film was sold out, and it was both encouraging and exciting to have between 45-90 people attend the series of holistic talks.
In addition to continuing to offer educational opportunities, a new "Networking Initiative" is being launched to strengthen the connections among the AHMA members in NE Ohio. A community forum is being designed for the website that will allow members to share information about their services, new programs, upcoming presentations, and recent publications.
This new initiative will premiere at the Holistic Practitioners Networking Event scheduled for November 15th. This event will be open to AHMA members who are actively practicing holistic health and medicine. All participants will have the opportunity to share about their practice in a structured networking experience. There will also be a group meditation followed by sharing a healthy meal of your choosing.
Your ideas are necessary for this Networking Initiative to be successful. We welcome all thoughts you may have in facilitating the intention to strengthen and support the community of holistic practitioners in NE Ohio. One idea we are exploring is how AHMA can help foster Community Forums where members gather either in person or virtually to discuss a variety of topics. Some members may be interested in discussing holistic care for people with eating disorders, cancer, anxiety, etc. Others may want to come together to discuss how to develop a business in holistic medicine. Whatever the topic, the chapter wants to facilitate the development of such community forums.
I look forward to hearing from you!! Please address your emails to: doug@dougjmoore.com. We will let you know emails have been received and will contact you if so desired. Thank you all in advance for making this Networking Initiative a true collaborative effort!

| Introducing new Board member, Dr. Lili Lustig |
Dr. Lili Lustig recently joined the Board of the NEO Chapter AHMA. She is married and a mother of three. After being unhappy with the care of her mother with an autoimmune disorder, she began her journey to become a physician. After undergraduate training at Arizona State University, she attended medical school in Blacksburg, Virginia. The family moved to Cleveland and she completed Osteopathic Residency at South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights, OH.
Currently, Dr. Lustig is completing her third year of Family Medicine Residency with the goal to graduate in June, 2012. Lili currently serves on the Ohio Osteopathic Association as the Resident Board member and on the Staff Council at South Pointe, a new working group of all residencies leadership and program chiefs. "I am excited to work with the Board to provide information to the new residents about what AHMA is all about. Hopefully together we can forge a relationship with medical students and residents to think globally about the care of our patients." |
| WellFest 2012 - CSU recruiting for sponsors, exhibitors & advertisors |
The CSU Recreation & Wellness Center will host its 5th annual Wellfest on January 26th, 2012. This special event is open to CSU faculty, staff and students, as well as Cleveland community members. Its goal is to bring health awareness to attendees and spread a culture of wellness that can be adapted by all.
In January 2011, Wellfest attracted over 500 to the event and the goal is greater in 2012. Activities and events will begin at 10 AM in the CSU Student Center. The Wellfest Committee is looking for sponsors, exhibitors, and/or advertisers. If you are interested, contact Sabrina Ryan, Wellfest Chair and Fitness and Wellness Coordinator at s.m.ryan16@csuohio.edu. AHMA members are asked to display the AHMA trifold brochure at their table. Please contact AHMA at 216-292-6644 for copies. |
