In the public eye: recycling ramps up
 |
ProAct is collecting bottles and cans for recycling in the south metro area.
|
A new effort to collect and sort beverage containers from south of the river convenience stores for recycling is in its first phase at ProAct, and plans are to expand it.
The "Message in a Bottle" program will increase employment opportunities and benefit the environment. It was created in connection with the Recycling Association of Minnesota and the Minnesota Beverage Association.
At full capacity, ProAct expects to collect about a ton of plastic, glass and aluminum per year from each of up to 75 area convenience stores.
ProAct work coordinator Kevin Augustin is refining pickup and processing schedules and exploring additional materials that could be added to ProAct's recycling mix.
